4 out of 5 eggsIt does work with pcs, laptops etc.

Pros: Easy setup, easy to use. We use this at work and the non techies have no problem connecting their laptops for presentations.

Cons: The source swap is a tad slow. Having each source called HDMI1 and HDMI2 confuses some users when the tv has HDMI1 and HDMI2. Not really a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Despite what other reviews have said, this does work with desktops and laptops. We have tried a variety of connections. As long as the laptop/pc has a digital output you should be fine. HMDI, Display Port ( DP to HDMI adapter needed) works. It will NOT work if using an analog output like VGA. At least from our tests...

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with computers

Pros: Casts 1080p video wirelessly.
Interface is simple, yet well done.

Cons: Does not work with laptops or computers.
Tech support is rude and unhelpful.

Other Thoughts: I bought this product to try to display to a remote tv some presentations and videos for a meeting room. I briefly was able to connect my laptop and make the projection work, but it quickly lost the signal and then I was never able to recover the signal, despite trying all the troubleshooting options.

When I contacted customer support, they were extremely rude to me. From the very beginning it seemed like they just wanted to move on from my problem. They kept ignoring my problem, just trying to figure out if the device "works", and in the end had no solution.

So the bottom line is this: If you want to project dvd players/tivo/etc, it should work fine. If you want to project computers/laptops/non-standard video, you will be out of luck.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. If you call support again we will rectify this situation. This is a plug and play kit so troubleshooting is limited. The GW3DHDKIT has been tested with lap tops and desktops with various operating systems however the computer must have an HDMI output. The projector will also have settings that would need to be adjusted in some cases. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsMostly works

Pros: allows to send HDMI for long distances, and even transfers the remote's IR signals.

Cons: (1) does not work properly when heated. I put it on top of the cable set-top box, and after a while it heats up and malfunctions.
(2) receiver cannot use the USB from my TV to power it - it needs its own power supply. that requires an extra outlet (and caused me to spend close to an hour on the phone with tech support until we figured this out)
(3) quite expensive for two little wireless units.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Most TV’s do not supply enough power the USB port to power the Receiver. This is why the power adapter is required. If the transmitter is overheating the GW3DHDKIT should be replaced. It is normal for these kits to run very warm to the touch however this should not affect the operation. The GW3DHDKIT carries a one year warranty. To start the RMA process please contact support at support@iogear.com or call 866-946-4327 Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsWay better than expected

Pros: * Easy setup.
* Can connect receiver power via USB to TV USB without the use of the included power cable. Receiver turns on or off when the TV is turned on or off with no problems.
* Image and sound just as if TV were hooked up directly to cable box.
* No signal drop-outs even though going about 20 ft through a wall, a floor, and a metal heating duct.
* Price compared to other quality systems on the market.

Cons: * Have had double button presses when using my cable box remote, but that is probably due to the remote itself, rather than this system's IR transmitter, so I didn't take an egg off for this. I will probably change out to a universal remote to replace both the TV and cable box remotes, which will most likely resolve the problem.

Other Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised at how well this system works, and would recommend it to anyone.

4 out of 5 eggsVery well made

Pros: Good transmission range
HDMI pass-through on transmitter
2 inputs
Minimal footprint

Cons: Both transmitter and receiver get VERY hot
Only supports standard HDTV resolutions (1080p, 720p, 480p)

Other Thoughts: I bought this to be able to use my computer wirelessly from another area in the house. I bought a wireless keyboard and mouse alongside it and already had a monitor ready to go. The transmission quality is excellent and there is very little, if any lag at all. The only problem was that the monitor I had was 1680 x 1050 so it would only do a 720p resolution instead of the native. It's not really too big of a deal considering this product will mostly be used with HDTVs though so it's no fault of the manufacturer.

One of the best features is that once the pair is connected it will show information on screen about the connection so if there's no input you can still tell that the pair is working properly.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this product

Pros: The setup instructions where easy to follow and completed in 45 minutes.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: This equipment is connected to a Directv HR21/100 DVR. It is used to transmit 40 FT. The picture is received at 1080I. I am very please with the product.

1 out of 5 eggsSTOP! BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!

Pros: Compact size. Nice design. Can be mounted. USB power to receiver from TV USB port means one less power cord dangling from the wall. Very easy to hook up to my existing home theater system. Nice gadget (if it worked).

Cons: I purchased this product on 4/29. It was very easy to connect with my home theater system. However the transmitter and receiver would not synchronize with each other even though they were only one foot apart and in direct line of sight. The synchronization process stayed in an infinite loop, failed after each four attempts to connect. I called the technical support line and my call was answered in less than one minute. The tech was very friendly and courteous. I explained my issue and was told that my configuration was ideal and that there is not much that could be done to troubleshoot the issue further. She recommended that I disconnect the power for three minutes and then try again. If they didn't connect with each other then the units would be deemed defective. I followed her advice but to no avail. The units still failed to connect. I obtained an RMA and returned the unit.

I decided to order another unit thinking I just had bad luck with the first one. Guess what? The second unit did the exact same thing as the first. I called technical support again. Again my call was answered quickly, within two minutes, and the tech support guy, Arnold, was very friendly and helpful. I explained my current and previous situation. He asked me to read his the serial number of the units. No sooner than I read the first four characters of the serial number he told me I could stop. He explained that he was starting to see a pattern of issues with serial numbers starting with OU32 and OU34. He asked me to send an email to the support mailbox and provide all of the details which I did. Arnold responded to my email within 15 minutes acknowledging receipt of my email and letting me know that he forward the details to the product engineer. I'm waiting to hear back from them. They say they will respond within 24 hours. Hopefully they can provide a firmware update to correct the situation.

I advise staying away from this product until I hear back from them. Once I get a resolution, one way or another, I will post an update with the outcome. If I have to send this unit back I will never buy another IOGear product again.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. We recommend an operating distance of a minimum of 6.5 feet and a maximum of 100 feet between transmitter and receiver. We currently have no know issues with the above mentioned serial numbers. Since you are having connection issues with the transmitter and receiver we would recommend contact us again at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com so that we can help to reslove your issue. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Plug everything in and it works as it should. I have the transmitter in another room, with the door closed, 50' from the receiver sitting in a cabinet behind a glass door and it sends a surprisingly clear picture. Takes a few extra seconds for the picture to show up on the screen but that's obviously going to happen. No lag or oddities with sound either. IR works great with PS3 controllers and remote.

Cons: The IR is pretty weak when it comes to a Comcast remote and storing the receiver behind a TV but works as it should when in line of sight.

Small thing but the IR plug has to be pushed into the receiver somewhat forcefully and if not connected properly will cause the IR blasters not to function. Might be part of the problem with the IR blaster that I have read a few times.

Transmitter and receiver get hot when streaming.

Other Thoughts: Don't use garbage HDMI cables with this hardware. If you're willing to spend $200+ on this type of item then splurge and get the good stuff to improve your setup.

4 out of 5 eggsworks very well

Pros: Transmits HD through an industry standard (WHDI I believe?) for sending 1080 wirelessly. I have my reciever strapped to the back of my TV powered by a USB port. 2-source with pass through shows that some actual thought was put into this as opposed to rushing to market.

Cons: Heavy bandwidth of 1080p makes for short range. I couldn't transmit reliably from upstairs and one room over: I had to move the xmit to right above the reciever. Some lag time too, you can look at one TV in a room, and if you move fast enough you can see the same picture again on the receiving end. I'd say it's about half a second or so. Definitely not for gaming, but for media it'll work just fine. Expensive for what it is.

Other Thoughts: Included a template for the reciever to be mounted on the wall, which I thought was cool. Can't comment on the IR blaster or anything since my remotes are RF.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great wish they had this years ago.

Pros: Simple to hook-up, very straight forward installation.

Cons: Maybe a bit of a lag when starting-up but this is expected.

Other Thoughts: Sharing my satellite box with another room, was using RG-6 cable but the HD didn't work. So I ordered this firstly to remote my PC monitor to a 40"HDTV in my office but since I didn't have that ready I thought I'd try it with my sat box, and I couldn't be happier. (I used to have to switch my HD receiver to 720p if I wanted to watch tv in the other room and channels like HBO and Stars, wouldn't even show-up without changing to composite cables, so screw that)
I couldn't be happier with this IOGEAR wireless interface. If anyone is looking to share cable or satellite boxes with other rooms this is the device for you and you don't have to run wires.
