2 out of 5 eggspoor video capturing

Pros: It works ok.

Cons: Marginal recording quality. Have not, so far, found any other software that will work with this card. If they see it, they cannot get the audio recorded. Still trying tho.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Tuner works great with Win 7 64 bit. I did not install any of the software just used the disk to install the drivers. Windows media center recognized the tuner and set up the channels. HD channels look superb. Comes with two remote controls, a small black slim remote with its own IR sensor and a large white remote with white IR sensor. The small black remote/sensor work great, the large white remote works well but not with the supplied IR sensor

Cons: The supplied white IR sensor is either defective or is not recognized by Win 7. Tried it on 3 computers and no luck. The large white remote does work well with other media center computers or with a generic IR sensor.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate for Remote

Pros: Just as an update on the remote and to say it still works great. First off I bought my card months ago and it only came with 1 remote. HD TV's are the reason your remote delays or does not repeat when a key is held down (like volume control) My remote worked great until I upgraded my TV to a 54" Plasma. The TV has way to much EMF and the remote is bad IR type. You will find this with all MCE remotes up until now (there are a few out there that use IR).

This gets me to up to today and what you'll get as of Sept 2010.

My parents just bought this card cause I gave them a new computer so they can stream movies. They wanted a remote and capture for live TV. It came with 2 remotes and two receivers. The first one is the white one and nothing has change, I hoped theirs would have lite up but its just like my remote. The Second remote (pray you get this for HD TV users) is an IR remote. It is very thin and uses a CR2025 battery to power it. The all black receiver is the IR one,

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: the white one goes with the white remote. My parents do not have a HD TV so I am using it. It works perfectly, no problems what so ever. I have been waiting for an IR remote for quite some time. Also for this remote you can program your master remote to send the same codes to the computer. This is the best part of this purchase.

Analog reception could be better but the Digital is really good. I record 2 ch. at once with this card using MCE and have never had an issue.

Just a note:
Over-clocking the PCI on your system will make this card do weird things. I pushed it to 145Mhz and it was done, it just wouldn't turn on. Anything above the 133Mhz makes this card unreliable so I would avoid making changes to the PCI BUS.

Hope this helps others out there, the new remote is awesome for HD TV's.

Going to bed.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

Pros: At least the card works and has a decent picture.

Cons: Documentation? What documentation? My MSI motherboard can't start up with the ASUS IR receiver plugged in. The IR blaster is not detected by Win 7 64 although it shows up in the device manager. Hard to find support on Asus' website for this model.

Other Thoughts: I can't get through Win 7's MCE setup because of the IR issue. I bought the stupid card to use MCE.

1 out of 5 eggsCD completely faulty.

Pros: It's not as wide as my video card is.

Cons: The included CD did not work on Windows 7 Home 64 bit AT ALL. In fact, if I put the CD in my drive while I was booting up, I was not ABLE to boot up. When putting the disc in after booting, it would freeze everything until I took it out. Can't even access it on D drive. Thus, I had no access to the included TotalMedia software given that it's not on the website. ASUS only has the drivers for the card on their website, not the included software that is probably at least half of this product's price tag, I realized after looking into what it actually was.

Other Thoughts: Don't have the patience to wait another week for a replacement. Whoops.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT HARDWARE!!! Software (as is a mixed bag)

Pros: The hardware has been rock solid!! The quality of the recording / viewing using both tuners is VERY GOOD! NO there is NO preformance problems running a dual tuner on the PCI bus. The recording quality was really good using TotalMedia 3.5 & Windows Vista (w/TV Media Pack 2008 & Windows 7). FURTHER A HUGE PLUS is with the OEM version of TM 3.5 that's included IT WILL DO CLEAR QAM IN XP. Yes Clear QAM in XP, w/ TM 3.5. Only tested 32bit.
SO my recommendation is if you have Vista (w/TV Media Pack 2008 installed) or Windows 7 - by all means use Windows Media Center with this card it's a seemless setup. I had No issues installing or running this from the included CD in XP MCE 2005, Vista w/ media p., & W7 (triple booted test system) - DON"T FORGET to download the fix (see other thoughts).
The included remote is the Vista style remote its light weight and I like it more than I thought I would being a happy user with the Microsoft XP MC remotes.
See CON below about Remote issue.

Cons: Included TM 3.5, unlike what's shown on the box/manual comes without the DVD, MUSIC, or To Go modules. I did clean installs and tried the TM 3.5 version right from Arcsoft thinking it would be better more complete - NOT QUITE, THE ARCSOFT WEBSITE's VERSION WILL NOT DETECT CLEAR QAM AT ALL. It took 2 1/2 weeks back & forth waiting for their tech support to realize it doesn't currently do Clear QAM! SO the OEM version that ASUS & some other vendors have is in that regard BETTER than the $79.99 version on from Arcsoft 8-(
NO WORKING Internet EPG In the ASUS or Arcsoft version - Contacted both Co. 's about this Asus sent me a full update that FIXED NOTHING!! Arcsoft said sent to their enginers. W/O an EPG it's simply TV/PVR on the computer.
Remote Control. If you have windows MC & TM 3.5 installed & push the green button on the remote it trys to open BOTH programs at once, that's an issue that wasn't FIXed. However AFAIK it's minor. Remote works w/ both software just start it w key

Other Thoughts: Now if you are reading this, and you wonder what about the reviews previous people have made saying it won't (under the included software from Arcsoft TotalMedia 3.5) do dual recording =AND= won't do PIP Right out of the box==> Will it? NO!
But BUT all you need to do to get both of these working is to sign up/register your card with VIP(dot)Asus(dot)com and download the super tiny file. The directions as to WHERE to then put the file aren't good but if you use Windows built in file search for that file you will find the file (same name as the one you downloaded) & you will replace the old file with the new. Then I shut everything down & rebooted (doesn't say to do it but, after that adjust your TV to 16:9 (F12) I think or click on the ghost TV bar and adjust it there. After that You WILL be able to do Dual recording (1)-NTSC (analog) and (1)-ATSC/Clear QAM at the same time =AND= have PIP. KEWL
Just like a dvd or blu-ray drive you sometimes need to find updates - not a negative

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: With the Total media software update from Asus.......
works as advertised.

Cons: Remote could be better

Other Thoughts: Apparently Asus reads these reviews and corrects faults we list, but not on an individual basis via their support.

5 out of 5 eggsReplacement Card

Pros: I bought this tuner to replace an ATI 650 Pro that’s not compatible with Windows 7. Installation was quick and simple; I didn’t even have to reboot my computer after installing the drivers. Everything worked flawlessly and the quality of the picture is noticeably higher than the ATI 650 pro was. I’m very happy with this purchase.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: In my case, the computer I installed this tuner card in is the heart and soul of my home entertainment center, thus the remote is my best friend. All thou the remote that comes with this is well constructed, I wish it was a bit more user friendly.
