1 out of 5 eggsWorked for a week Poor Support

Pros: Played everything I wanted it too...... for a week.

Cons: You may have noticed it only worked for a week. The really irritating thing about that is I had already sent the rebate so no return. My initial query to support was answered within a couple days but they just directed me to complete an RMA. After that submission no response except the "we got your submission" automatic email.

Other Thoughts: Really disappointing support.... I was happy with how it was working and really just want it fixed or replaced.

4 out of 5 eggsGood inexpensive media player

Pros: Inexpensive, plays most file formats, works well

Cons: Volume is a bit low, only plays BD movie only ISO files

Other Thoughts: I bought this player for the purpose of watching movies on a tv at my girlfriends house. So far I have played m4v files that were ripped for an Apple TV, full disk DVD ISO files and movie only BD ISO files all of which play flawlessly. Ii should mention that I tried full disk BD ISO files and these do NOT work. I can't speak to the surround sound audio as I have only hooked this up to a stereo tv but I have played movies with both Dolby and DTS sound tracks and the player down converts both just fine. So far I am really happy with this media player

3 out of 5 eggsIt is workng ok so far....

Pros: Play all video formats

Cons: [1] SD card slot does not work. [2] Slow in scanning media. [3] The letters in the subtitle settings menu IS THE WORST EVER. Even with a 65" TV screen, I still can't even READ/SEE the words CLEARLY. I have to guessed to chose the settings.[4] Last but the most important This media box does not have any of the functions button built on it so if the remote controller got damaged or went missing... YOU MUST get a remote replacement or to say bye bye to your media player altogether

5 out of 5 eggsTJ: Fixing Sort Order

Pros: Use this to playback files on TV. Easier than streaming from my server, just a quick and dirty solution. Just copy files to a flash drive, then plug and play. Also great for traveling, small and portable.

Very good at handling subtitles: Can change size of text, position of text, and adjust timing. Can also change font/colors, but I don't find the last that useful. But the 1st 3 do come in very handy.

Cons: Subtitles are TEXT only. Hypertext markups, eg.
[font=yellow]Now text is yellow[font]
displays EVERYTHING, including the hypertext, e.g., [font=yellow].

Not true hypertext in this example, but true hypertext is often forbidden in postings.

Other Thoughts: For FAT32 formatted drives, Asus is displaying files in order as found on the drive's FAT table, no sorting (on your computer, windows provides the sort for explorer). Seems same happens on some TV's when playing back files from usb drives.

Why explained:
google
order of files on disk without sorting
and take a look at the philips
How-to-Show-Files-with-the-correct-sorting-via-USB

Basically, copy all files to a new folder using keyboard commands (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C) and NOT mouse as it appears copying via mouse does not sort files first.

But this doesn't help the "botched" sort order of folders and files "jumbled" together, not like a nice sort of folders first, then files.
Explanation here:
google
Sort MP3 files on MP3 Player MurrayMoffatt

I tried mp3DirSorterE.exe
google
Sort mp3 files in FAT folders: mp3DirSorter

checking both the "Sort folders alphabetically" and "Sort files alphabetically" boxes.
Worked on my FAT32 flash drive; all folders appear first, then files, all sorted. And it's a "portable" program, no install required.
Obviously, caution warranted for irreplaceable files, but did work for me.

2 out of 5 eggsOnly Outputs to 480i SD not 1080p

Pros: Plays Most all Media formats out there and the menus are very easy to understand

Cons: Only Outputs to 480i SD which is pretty disappointing after reading all the great reviews. (how did everyone miss this HUGE MISTAKE!!!!

Other Thoughts: I hooked it to my 40" Sony LCD on 3 different HDMI inputs and they all offered the same experience. It had no problem playing 1080p or 720p or 480p video files, and they looked pretty good but after hitting the INFO button On "MY TV" remote (not the asus remote) it showed that it was only outputting to 480i SD.

My Friend also bought the same player and ended up with the same results that I did, so I decided to contact Asus and through their live Chat it was "CONFIRMED" that this media player only outputs 1080p to RMVB files and every other file will output to only 480i SD.

I love the fact that this player plays so many formats but I mean come on why would you put a chipset in this box that limits the output of almost every popular file like MKV MP4, AVI to only 480i SD.

Very disappointed that I bought this product and if it didn't cost so much to return and restock it I'd send it back.

5 out of 5 eggsThe power of simplicity

Pros: Simple, powerfull
Not laggy at all
Remote is clicky in a good way
Reads large portable HDD !! The USB is nicely powered and I can use a 1TB portable HDD with additional power.
Interface and menus are simple.
Think VLC in a box

Cons: None so far!

5 out of 5 eggsupdate

Pros: I wrote in my original review that this does not play back .FLV files. This is not true for all .FLV files - it depends on what codec made the file. h.264 encoded files play back. AVI encoded files do not.

Cons: As in previous review.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little device but.....

Pros: I've got this Asus O!Play Mini for a few days now and really like it. We use it to play RMVB video files that I downloaded....the HD video images are excellent on our 1080P TV! It is a great little device that replaced the PC (behind our TV) I used to use for doing the same thing but with much better video picture quality!

I'm not going to repeat all the nice features that already posted here. The 4-star rating here is because there are 2 minor issues in my case that I still can not figure out the solutions (maybe someone who knows how can help out).....

Cons: First issue, I can not update the firmware (I saw posts here say it is easy)....mine has v. 1.1.5 and I downloaded v. 1.1.6 from Asus but can not open it because it is an IMG file that is not recognized by PowerISO or any other image burning app....the O!Play Mini does not read this IMG file (on a USB) either. So, there is no way to update to the latest firmware for me. I don't think it is too important for me at this time.....

Second issue, when I play many RMVB video files, one at a time, from the same title folder from my WD-Passport external HDD (like, same TV show title with episodes #1, #2, #3....etc.), sometimes the order in the playlist gets mixed up (like, episode #5 is ahead of episode #4) and, there is no way to manually re-adjust the order. It does not happen too often but, can be bothersome sometimes. I'm not sure why it does that and wish there is a way I can move the video files up/down manually!
(*I have not tried other types of files, other than RMVB, yet)

Other Thoughts: Hope someone (or, Asus) can help my issues....Other than that, this media player is great!
