1 out of 5 eggsCheap but a poor value

Pros: Inexpensive and installation is easy. Needs no third-party software if you're using Windows 7 with Windows Media Center. Just install the drivers and let WMC detect and control it.

Cons: Seemed to work fine at first. Very occasional use. I maybe got 12 hours of total TV watching time out of it before it died. It had intermittent reliability issues as time went on. Finally stopped working entirely. None of my computers will recognize that a USB device is plugged in and occasionally when it is recognized, it's "malfunctioning" according to Windows. Seemed to get rather warm so previous reviewers that were suggesting an overheating problem may be on to something. When it *was* working, reception was flaky on many channels with the supplied antenna. My office is just a few miles away from the antenna farm that most of the broadcast networks in my metro area broadcast from. I can look out of my office window and see the broadcast towers. Even so, this USB tuner struggled to receive channels. I had an easier time receiving the same channels at home, which was much further away suggesting the unit might have issues with strong signals or interference from reflected signals.

Other Thoughts: Pay more for better quality. You're not saving anything if what you buy winds up in the trash in a few months. I figured USB TV tuners had been around long enough that even the inexpensive ones were at least decent at this point. I was wrong. I only give 1 star/egg ratings to products that are designed poorly from the start and are destined to fail.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked 'okay'... at first.

Pros: Inexpensive. USB. Comes with its own small antenna. Supports composite in.

Cons: Two months after purchase... it stopped working. Intermittently at first, but then completely. Windows Device Manager sometimes shows it as Code 10 - Device failed to start. Reinstalling drivers completely failed to resolve. Moving ports used to 'fix' it temporarily but no longer. Overheats badly.

Other Thoughts: For the money you pay? Spend a little more and get a more reputable model. This one simply just didn't make the cut. Diamond tech support has been slow to respond to RMA process.

1 out of 5 eggsOverheats constantly

Pros: Many accessories. Should seemingly work great for recording and transferring old VHS tapes.

Cons: Overheats consistently after ~20 min of use. Doesn't matter whether you are watching TV, record a video, or just watch VHS through the analog connection. The device won't be recognized until you un- and replug. Pretty much no chance of recording a 2-hour tape without interruption

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Comes with lots of accessories included: remote, antenna, A/V dongle, etc.

Cons: Device gets warm and locks up in less than 5 min.

Other Thoughts: Once locked up, video will continue to play but channel can no longer be changed (Win 7 Media Center still responds fine, but replies "no tuner available" if you try to change channels. Unplugging USB stick and re-inserting will cure the lock-up and Win 7 Media Center will immediately recognize the tuner is present. You then have less than 5 min before it locks up again.

Same results whether using driver supplied on CD or latest driver downloaded from ATI.

Stay away!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat USB Tuner, Rebate Process isn't.

Pros: HD Tuner
Works with Windows 8 Media Center
Clear QAM and ATSC Signals

Cons: Had an issue with heat once, unplugged and re-plugged immediately and it worked.
Costs Money (not the least expensive)
Had issues doing the ATI Rebate

Other Thoughts: Love the product so much I bought two, even if I was hozed on the rebate (my fault, sent it 1 day too late, but still). Have them hooked up to a Windows 8 Media Center PC and the result is divine.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing strong for me

Pros: Simple plug in interface works with Win7 Media Center. Device is very reliable when using Media Center as the tuner program.
Clear QAM worked before Comcast encrypted their channels

Cons: Wish USB extension cable fit a little tighter. Accidently tugged on the device under my desk and the USB connectors fell out.
Tuner program supplied for WinXP is flaky and not reliable. It is made by ArcSoft and has never been updated. All TV Tuner manufacturers use it (including Hauppage) and everyone has problems. Go to the ArcSoft support boards and you can see all the TV Tuner owners complaining. Only solution ArcSoft offers is to BUY the latest tuner software version from them.

Other Thoughts: I've had my 750 USB for over three years using an external antenna and really like the ability to pop up a TV program on my desktop and continue working without missing my TV program. Since the switch to Win7 Media Player, the tuner has been very reliable. I'm now looking to buy an internal PCI version so I can free up my USB version for use with my laptop.

Haven't tried analog video conversion yet but I have some old 8mm video that I will try converting eventually.

To those having problems, make sure your system meets the minimum requirements (and hopefully more) and that you have up to date video card drivers. Playing video uses a bunch of CPU horsepower and the video card actually uses a special overlay mode to display the video.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tuner

Pros: Easy to use. Picture capture is great. Absolutely love being able to fast forward through commercials. Price is very affordable.

Cons: Have it plugged into a powered USB Hub and if my power goes out I have to unplug the tuner and plug it back in to get my computer to recognize it. May not be the Tuner's fault, it could be the hub, but all other devices work without unplugging and plugging back in.

Other Thoughts: Running on Windows 7 64 bit operating system. After reading the reviews I did not install the software that came with the Tuner. Only installed the drivers and using with Windows Media Center to setup record schedules. Attached home antenna with coaxial cable to tuner. Record on one computer to external hard drive and am able to stream over the home network to another computer running Windows 7 which is connected to a TV in another room. Much easier than streaming shows from the internet. Have already recommended to a friend and would buy again.

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T Buy This!!!

Pros: None

Cons: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I bought one and tried it in four different computers running 3 different operating systems. It simply did not work. I shipped it back (at my expense). They shipped a replacement that worked for less than five minutes. I am not kidding. I wish I would have listened to the negative reviews I have seen regarding this product. You have been warned.
