4 out of 5 eggsgreat for price

Pros: Now I can view almost all of the videos I download on my 55" TV.
AVI VOB MKV most wmv The dvd backups in ISO & VOB work just like the DVD in the player. Also I can listen to music that is on my PC while having a slideshow running on the TV.

Cons: If a defrag or download is running on the same hard disk it will get jittery. Just have the movie on a different drive.

3 out of 5 eggsNew Alternate Firmware Available to Fix newer MKV playback issues

Pros: This is a great product, the same as the ones from the highly touted ACRyan Mini. It has a nice remote and great good hardware.

Cons: Support from Diamond is non-existence. This device with the stocked firmware con not play the newer MKV files. Multiple request for support was ignored.

Other Thoughts: I was able to find an alternate firmware Mede8er for ACRyan POHD Mini that works on this device. I can now play the newer MKV files. The new firmware also comes with a nicer new interface. You can find the new firmware and instructions on the AVS forum by searching for Diamond MP1000.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Hasn't stumbled on any file type that I've tried to play with it. Unlike the Patriot Box Office Media Player that would stumble on every .mp4 file I tried to play (even though they advertised it as one of the file types it could play).

Cons: I don't care for some of the remote button locations. For instance, the pause and play buttons are in two different areas on the remote. So if you are pausing frequently (say to read subtitles) you are constantly having to look for the buttons to resume, and pause play. It makes matters worse when you are viewing in the dark, and have to keep turning the lights on to find the correct button.

Another feature I HATE is having to go into a menu every time you want to turn subtitles on, or off. This is a REAL pain if you don't like subtitles, and only turn them on when needed. My DVD player has a single button for this click for on, click it again and they are off. Unlike this player were I have to go through a menu every time I want to turn the subtitles on, or off.

Other Thoughts: While my cons a MAJOR inconveniences. I don't think it was worth docking this player an egg. The main reason I got was to replace my Patriot PBOX That couldn't play .mp4's. So far this player has payed everything, and I'm very happy with that.

2 out of 5 eggsSerious flaw!!!!

Pros: Small, powerful, easy to setup, playback is nice. Also it plays just about every format you through at it except MOV files which is surprising.

Cons: Where to start, the inability to play MOV files which is the standard for most camcorders is a big issue. Also the support buy Diamond for this product is sad. There is a serious bug in the Networking when running Windows 7. I have three 1TB drives running RAID 5 on my main PC which is storing movies, music, pictures, ect. when trying to use the Networking option it asks for a username and password which you can not resolve. However there is a firmware fix but not on there webpage. You have to call and they have to e-mail you the firmware fix. Now for the catch! The fix makes the network option function for Windows 7 but then brakes the Internet Radio! Last the the screen interface looks out dated and is difficult to use for a non-tech person (ask my wife).

Other Thoughts: I excepted the Network issue and installed the new firmware so I could access my network share but having to give up the Internet Radio to do it is unacceptable! They have had plenty of time to fix this bug and still have not. If you go to there webpage you will see this product has been discontinued for support so it will never be fixed!!!

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: Plays everything flawlessly. Streams 20+GB 1080p files from my PC with no pauses using ethernet over powerline. The NAS feature works like a charm.

Cons: No built-in wireless, but from the other reviews I'd probably avoid the wireless anyway.

Other Thoughts: You can't beat the NewEgg price + manufacturer rebate on this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I own three of these two at home to watch movies and one at work to listen to music through a stereo system in my office. It plays almost any kind of movie. I use a Segate Free Agent 2.5" USB hard drive to watch movies and it never skips on any of the formats I have played. Overall I think for the price it is hard to beat. Small and much better than using a media center PC.

Cons: The media library and MP3 player could be better no play lists and a little hard to navigate.

Other Thoughts: I don't use the network features and I don't have it hooked up to my home network so I can't comment on those features.

2 out of 5 eggsAfter 7 Months of Using

Pros: Capability of enjoying old and new electronic formatted films !

Cons: Networking produces an unstable signal using Diamond Multimedia usb wireless adapter. USB connector loosens inside of housing. 1080p resolution viewing stops after 6 months, halts video feed for 3 minutes, opens system setup menu and reverts video output down to 480p. Once video output is changed back to 1080p system halts video for 3 minutes, screen blacks out, system menu opens, freezing the unit. During the time, remote control does functions doesn't respond, turning off unit at base ...its annoying BIG TIME!

Other Thoughts: Rated best out of all media centers, Diamond Media customer service did not take my word for its product failure, since I didn't design it, I don't understand its inner working parts !

3 out of 5 eggsVery good with annoying flaws

Pros: It is amazing how many different file types this thing plays. I can use it to browse the hard drive of my computer and play movies in different formats, view pictures and documents, and play music. I like that the text and icons in the menus are big compared to my other media player.

Cons: I use my MP1000 almost exclusively to view movies that are streamed from my Windows media server which is attached via wired 100baseT network. Movies play flawlessly on my 720P, and 1080i TV. Slight skipping when playing on my 1080p TV. No skipping when playing from USB hard drive.
Highlights in DVD menus are not displayed in the right place, making in difficult to tell what (play movie, special features, etc) is selected. On some DVDs, I cannot see the highlight at all.
Diamond did not answer my email about this problem, nor has it updated firmware in the last six months. I assume these problems will not be fixed in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsPlays ISO files well

Pros: Plays all my ISO files, no problem. Even menus and subtitled files!

Cons: I would like to see a playlist feature for video files as well as audio.

Diamond customer service did answer within 24 hours by e-mail stating they would forward the request on for possible firmware upgrade

Other Thoughts: I am replacing a WDHD TV unit, which played files well, but had issues with lock ups , as well as, finding out that Western Digital had stopped supporting the unit.

I do not usually need to have media streamed from the network, but I have a large library of Hi-8 and other vacation videos that I had converted to DVD. I purchased the Western Digital unit as a way to help catalog those videos and have virtually instant playack.

Video quality is fairly good going to HD, as I transferred these to DVD-r via S-video.

Some downloaded .mpg files although they play on my laptop, do not always play well, but that may be another issue, not the Media Player, so I am going to try MP4s and other formats.
