2 out of 5 eggsNot durrable

Pros: Does what it says, easy to use

Cons: Too heavy, pulls on your MDport, after some time with no stress the cable will start splitting and will no longer work, you will be lucky if it doesn't short out.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. We apologize for the issue that you are faced with. If the cable is pulling on the port, you can try to use zipties to tie it up.

Best Regards,
Raymond

1 out of 5 eggsDANGER

Pros: When it works, it's great.

Cons: DANGER: I read here in the New Egg blog, someone else & perhaps others have experienced a failure of this device that blows out your HDMI monitor input. I run three 50" monitors. The last thing you want, is to blow a monitor input. This catastrophy set me back quite a bit, scrambling to repair the damage. I contacted PowerColor tech svc and they blew me off by insulting my intelligence. They suggested the monitor may have blown first and taken out their adapter!
Sorry, I've been a board level technician in Consumer Electronic Service for 35 years and have yet to see the input of ANYTHING take out another device !

Other Thoughts: This device runs warm / hot. To me this means there's a bit of current running through it....While a failure of this nature may be non typical, if it happens to you, your head will explode.
There are a few identical looking devices out there but they may be the same unit by a different brand label. I can't speak to the reliability of any other unit different or not.
I suspect PowerColor may be aware of this and choose to ignore it as it might open up a liability to repair damaged monitors. Didn't GM do that for 10 years with defective ignition switches?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We apologize for the issue that you are faced with. However, the likely hood of our adapter taking a monitor input is very unlikely. Please investigate your system for other possible electrical issue.

Best Regards,
Raymond

3 out of 5 eggsA few issues, but functional

Pros: It lets me run my third screen

Cons: This adapter makes my screen off one pixel to the left, so that the far left column of pixels on the screen is missing, and the far right is all black. It doesn't play nice with one of my three monitors because of that, but it functions on the other two, and it's really not too bad if it's in the right place.

There's also an issue with Vertical Sync Tearing. I'm not sure whether to blame the card or the adapter, but if the screen with the adapter tears, the two on DVI don't, and if those two do, the adapter'd one does. It's extremely annoying.

Other Thoughts: These really should come with all the new video cards to start with. Paying $30-$60 for one on top of a $200-$500 card is ridiculous.

1 out of 5 eggsIn my case - no go

Pros: With my HD 6970 ... none.

- On Newegg's side - superior order & shipping execution

Cons: Grainy color distorted monitor images from both mini display ports.

Going back to the Sapphire brand I used before. Fortunately, the 'egg still has them at a decent price.

Other Thoughts: For me, this just didn't work.

Newegg support was excellent assisting with an RMA question.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks... I guess

Pros: Works to get an extra display up via a displayport. Inexpensive and small as well. Works just fine with Eyefinity

Cons: Display flickers off frequently, noise in signal. Monitor constantly flashes off to no signal and back which gets very annoying very fast. Sometimes does this every 10 seconds, sometimes once an hour. Just seems to have a mind of its own.

Manufacturer Response:

What you are experiencing here may be an issue with the adapter itself or possibly with the card's MDP port. Try testing the adapter in another port to see if it continues and depending on your test results, the adapter may need to be replaced or the card.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Eyefinity

Pros: Relativity inexpensive. Works with Eyefinity. Had to grab it because my old HD6850 had full size display ports.

Cons: Cannot really think of one.

Other Thoughts: Working well with an HD7850 and a triple monitor setup. This adapter is powering one of two 23" monitors in 1080P with a 27" main. Main running HDMI, one 23" on DVI, and the other 23" running to a mini display port with this adapter.

1 out of 5 eggsDisaster

Pros: None

Cons: DOA, as much as it applies to an adapter. Does not perform as an active adapter and of course forget about eyefinity support. Cheap packaging, you can tell it is no namebrand. I should have went with a real product, but wanted to save a few dollars. Now after paying for shipping and return shipping, and still having to buy a new one, I am totally dissatisfied.

Other Thoughts: Pap a few more bucks for a brandname product. Seriously!

Manufacturer Response:

If you were still in possession of this, I would have been happy to assist you. I can assure you that these adapters are active adapters and do not have any issue working in their intended fashion. The issues you encountered may have been able to be resolved, but now, we won't know.

We do thank you for having considered PowerColor as your Mini-DisplayPort provider. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at jgaray@powercolor.com.

Thank you,

Jonathan
