3 out of 5 eggsSome things to consider

Pros: The good - There's a ton of content, and a lot of channels. It takes a long time to get through them and find all the ones you want to make your primary channels, but it's worth it. Plex is an awesome add on, and it allows the installation of unsupported apps, which make the content even more extensive.

Cons: 1. Audio pops and drops out/skips through the headphones. 2. Youtube app is useless on any but the Roku 3. They're just too slow to handle it. 3. Most of the free movie channels have commercials. Some channels will put a commercial up every 5 minutes or so, which makes it very intrusive. Also, it likes to show the same commercial over and over, which just adds to the frustration. 4. Unit was scratched up and the remote had the previous owner's hand goo all over it and the buttons. 5. Some channels do not support Dolby Digital and only push through Dolby Digital plus. If you own an older sound system like me that doesn't have HDMI in and you run your audio through your TV, you won't get sound on those channels. So, to avoid switching between sound inputs when I switch channels, I had to run analog audio out and HDMI video to my TV. So I can't get true surround sound out of the thing unless I purchase an expensive receiver that has HDMI inputs. Something to keep in mind if you plan on buying a Roku 3; make sure your surround system has HDMI in or you won't have any way to get audio through it 6. New A-m-a-z-o-n channel out today is sluggish and drops connection. Not sure if that'll be remedied, but if not I'll be a bit upset.

Other Thoughts: If I had it to do over again, I'd probably not go with it. I'd grab a streaming stick and just mirror everything from my laptop and Plex. The device is a bit sluggish and doesn't really do anything extraordinary. If this is meant to be a streaming device and your only device, it will suffice and do what it's supposed to do. If you have HDMI in on your surround system, go for the Roku 3. Otherwise, make sure you get a 1 or 2 so you can make sure you get audio in your system through all channels.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: The best streaming device out there. Unit came in new condition and worked right out of the box. Great value for the money. Has audio/video out in addition to HDMI meaning this thing works with older TVs.

Cons: The processor in the Roku 2 is noticeably slower than Roku 3, meaning there is often a lag when you make a menu selection. Some applications have some options missing that you get with the Roku 3 version (namely changing user in Netflix).

Other Thoughts: Honestly, if I had to make a choice between hooking a TV up to cable, or to a Roku streaming device, I would pick the Roku. This is especially true if you live in a big city, and hook up a digital antenna to go with the Roku. Antenna + Netflix + Prime + Hulu makes for a happy boy.
