HDHomeRun is a TV tuner for computers - Ethernet attached. The HDHomeRun connects to your home router enabling you to watch and record TV from any computer on your home network. Similar to how a network printer is available to all computers, the HDHomeRun serves high quality digital TV to your family room, bedrooms, kitchen, home office, even your backyard or garage - anywhere you have a computer. No opening your computer case to install a PCI card. No USB dongle tied to one computer.
Up to 1080i HDTV
The HDHomeRun streams the full-quality digital stream from the broadcaster or cable provider, ensuring that you get the highest quality possible, including 720p and 1080i HDTV when available.
Compatible with Windows Media Center
The HDHomeRun works with Microsoft’s Windows Media Center included free in Windows Vista Home Premium and all versions of Windows 7, MCE 2005 and popular third-party DVR applications including BeyondTV, SageTV, and TotalMedia. With HDHomeRun, you can watch, pause, record and rewind Live TV, schedule future or season recordings and never miss your favorite show.
Linux MythTV
MythTV is the leading DVR application for Linux and includes full HDHomeRun support. No kernel space drivers to install – just select HDHomeRun from the tuner list and run a channel scan.
Free Broadcast TV
Use an antenna to pick up the FREE broadcast digital TV (ATSC) available in your area – ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, and other networks. Most locations have additional subchannels carrying kids programming, classic TV, weather channels, etc., all available for no monthly fee!
Unencrypted digital cable TV
Unable to use an antenna? Connect your HDHomeRun directly to the incoming cable line to receive the unencrypted digital cable (“ClearQAM”) channels your cable provider offers.

5 out of 5 eggsPlug and Play Perfection

Pros: This network attached TV tuner couldn't have been simpler to get up and running. Windows Media Center quickly picked up the tuners and integrated them into the pool of existing PCI-e card tuners. Quality of image is perfect.

Cons: Wish I had gone with the one that supports DLNA but the extra cost didn't make sense at the time.

Other Thoughts: Sorry to see these are out of stock these days. These are far and away superior to the Avermedia tuners that take up mother board slots and only have a single tuner per card.

3 out of 5 eggsGood quality product (when it works)

Pros: Able to record multiple shows at the same time.
After short setup, works seamlessly with Windows Media Center.
Even works recording to WD Green hard drive.

Cons: Several unencrypted channels that my ancient LED TV can scan for and display are missing from scans from this product.
If signal quality starts to degrade any, it takes longer for this product to regain clear non-pixelated and unstuttered picture/sound than my TV.

Other Thoughts: I just wish this product could find all of my unencrypted cable TV channels. Also it would be nice to have a program that could do audio only for Music Choice channels that I'm receiving.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this product

Pros: Small unit, easy to hook up.

Cons: Just does not work wirelessly with a decent playback and/or picture. Not even close to picture quality on a Mac Eyetv unit when streaming or Hauppauge PC card with streaming software. I wanted this to work to avoid having a unit on different computers.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Device. Who needs cable TV?

Pros: + Painless install including auto-upgrading its firmware
+ Very compact - about the size of a deck of cards!
+ GUI with three signal quality indicators is fabulous for aligning antenna
+ It really works the way it claims! If only everything did.
+ HDTV 1080 signal quality is actually higher than on cable, since cable compresses broadcast channels to conserve bandwidth. That's what I read.

Cons: - The SiliconDust Android and iOS app does not work on this "legacy" Dual model, only on the newer ones. That was not obvious to me until I went to try it. Not worth knocking off an egg: why watch on a tiny screen anyway?

Other Thoughts: This just works. I got it on Black Friday special to give to the family for Christmas so we could watch the Olympics on something better than our 21" LCD TV. I used a Mohu passive antenna to receive from towers across the valley (20 miles?). The apps they include are very useful and work well, though the GUI is a little crude. You can monitopr the HD signal data rate, at typically 12-14 mbps. We used Windoze Media Center to record Olympics in middle of the night and watch later. I was blown away by the 1920x1080 picture quality on an 84" screen from an Acer H6510BD 1080p projector (two more black friday items). Note: it took careful antenna alignment (while watching symbol quality and RSSI on the included tuner app), and wired Ethernet to really make this all work. Don't try to use Wifi, even 5 GHz, to stream video. This tuner has 100BaseT output, so you don't need gigibit Ethernet unless you are later going to copy to and stream from a media server such as the Synology DS212j. For the Olympics I used a Lenovo X131e with core i3 and D4000 graphics, and it could record on one tuner while we watched live on another, with HDMI out to an Onkyo receiv er and from there to the projector, with only 20% cpu load - on an 11.6" netbook (Win7 Pro64, 8GB RAM). I was astonished. I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

1 out of 5 eggsHad high expectations

Pros: On a desk top with a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional, had it setup and running in no time.

Cons: On a lap top with Windows 7 Professional that had been in service for a few years, no amount of tinkering with firewall, VPN client, etc. could make it work. If this was the worst of it, I'd give it at least 4 stars, but sadly it's not. About 15 to 30 minutes into a recording the content becomes choppy and pixilated, making the playback unwatchable. I tried placing the unit on a laptop cooler and that seemed to help some, but even then it’s not dependable enough to be considered useful.

Other Thoughts: Streaming HD content over a wireless network will require an 802.11n router.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little box

Pros: Standalone box, not an integrated card. Can talk to multiple machines on the network simultaneously. Works with mythtv.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my home DVR running mythtv. I used to use cable, but (a) it's too expensive now, and (b) my local service locks down their cable cards to the point where they're unusable... so this little box knows how to interpret ATSC signals, which is over-the-air HDTV. Combined with the right antenna, I get lots of channels to watch free content off of.

I used to run with the HDHomeRun Prime (the more expensive version of this same box for use with cable cards), but the Prime doesn't support over-the-air signals, while this one does.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works well for OTA and clear QAM signals (if anyone gets them anymore)
This is my second purchase of these boxes. They both work well with MythTV under Linux. And my local cable co pays me $2.50 a month for having them!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Quality

Pros: Easy Setup
Excellent HD Quality
Compatible with many software packages

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have purchased other brands (Hauppage) before and have always been disappointed with their hard to set up procedure and low quality tuner. I finally decided to try a tuner over Ethernet. This tuner has been easy to use, reliable, and I love it! It is used for my new HTPC/DVR.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Pulls in all the over the air stations that I receive on my other TV's and tuners. Half of my channels are 60+ miles away and I use an large outdoor antenna with no amplifier. Dual tuner with only one input so no splitter is needed. The unit works plugged in to a 4 port switch on my large wired home network. Does not have to plug directly into the router. Can watch TV or recordings through the networked XBOX 360 also.

Cons: Going to need a bigger hard drive for all the recordings.

Other Thoughts: Using Windows Media Center to watch and record OTA hdtv. May not be very good if you are using strictly wireless network. Do not know how it would work with cable TV. Can watch TV or recordings through the networked XBOX 360 also.
