4 out of 5 eggsCable tuner Cox

Pros: Easy setup three tuners and small sizes.will tune cable channels without cable card but only basic non encrypted channels.

Cons: Cox did not say until went to get cable card i needed a Tuner adapter! It took Cox three times to get cable card to work.no pay per view and no on demand.

Other Thoughts: Check with you provider before you buy this product to see if setup will work for your application ! Could not get intel HD4000 video to decoded copy protected content.had to install a new video card to make work.also you must have a HDMI with HTCP COMPLIANT video card and TV.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works just as advertised.

Cons: I wish someone would have told me that you'll need to upgrade the network because recording 3 shows at once uses up a lot of bandwidth and the 3rd recording just wont be good.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks with very few devices wasted money

Pros: works great with PC

Cons: I have a Samsung smart Blu-ray and a smart TV will not work with either device . I have submitted 2 trouble tickets to HD prime and did not get any response from either ticket so I would say support is non existent.

Other Thoughts: I think that this is not advertised correctly it should say it might work with some smart devices but that list is very limited

5 out of 5 eggsScrew off, Time Warner!

Pros: 3 tuners
HD
Accessible over ethernet

Cons: Cable companies suck.
Wish it would also tune QAM with antenna

Other Thoughts: Time Warner charged me an arm and half of a leg each month for an outdated Scientific Atlanta DVR box that had to be powered off and back on every night for it to function the next day. So I set off to build a home PVR. TWC charges $2.50/month for a CableCARD, which presents me with significant savings.

TWC also encrypts the hell out of everything and sets all of the copy-protection flags on stuff. So I'm stuck using Windows Media Center for TV viewing, recording and whatnot. I really wish I could use XBMC for it, but again -- this is a Time Warner issue, not anything wrong with the HDHomeRun Prime.

Setup was easy. I set the MAC to get a specific DHCP IP on boot in my router config, then browsed to it. And it was up. The OTA channels actually came in without calling anyone. But after about five calls to TWC, I finally got the CableCARD paired with the HDHomeRun Prime and can now get "all" of my channels. (A few don't come in, but they're ones I don't watch, so I don't care). There's also a TWC CableCARD-specific help center which knows these devices inside and out and get help you get them set up with ease.

3 Tuners. That's 3 shows at once. And I could add a second one if I wanted. This thing is great. Every cable subscriber who is capable of setting up their own HTPC with Windows Media Center should buy this and ditch their overpriced DVR. So awesome.

1 out of 5 eggsWasted a Month on This

Pros: I had purchased a new one of these before and it worked GREAT.

Cons: I wasted a month, and 7-8 phone calls to Comcast (you know how painful that was), and finally Silicondust's (email) support decided it was a hardware problem. I had to pay the shipping to return it.

Other Thoughts: I have another (new) one of these that is working great. That's why I didn't associate much risk at getting a refurbished one. Obviously someone already put a lot of pain into this unit and it wasn't working then, and they didn't retest it well enough. Buy a NEW unit!

3 out of 5 eggsThis version requires a Cable Card to function.

Pros: Silicon Dust makes great devices and this one features 3 digital tuners.

Cons: This product does not support OTA it requires a cable card in order to support digital cable and to the best of my knowledge none of the major Canadian cable companies offer a cable card at this time

5 out of 5 eggsFinally

Pros: I had been using the Hauppauge DCR-2650 for 2 years and it was a constant headache. I had to coldboot it again and again. I would have to shutdown all instances of Window Media-center software components in task manager. The Homerun Prime is fantastic. Since it is network based it doesn't get affected by flicker of USB connections. It just works. And it works great. I can record 3 programs at the same time.

Cons: I have seen copying prohibited WMC blue screen once or twice for about 2 seconds but it straightens it self out quickly.

Other Thoughts: I wasted so much time and money with Hauppaguge. You live and you learns

4 out of 5 eggsGreat buy aside from the software

Pros: ~Amazing picture quality
~Easy to install (aside from issues with Verizon)
~Almost no lag (see cons)
~Compact
~Works well with WMC
~Able to use all 3 tuners at the same time with no issues

Cons: ~Video lags and freezes when on wifi. If you plan on watching tv on a wireless device, make sure you have a good router. The stock verizon router works if you are in the same room but starts acting up once you leave.

~The software that it comes with is absolutely horrible. It freezes a lot and the QuickTV interface is outdated.

~For some reason mine still says the card isn't activated but everything seems fine

5 out of 5 eggsWorks GREAT!

Pros: The refurbished unit worked exactly as described, just as good as new. I had already gone online to the SiliconDust website and downloaded the software and PDF guides so I was good to go when the box showed up (two days early too Newegg, wow!) Install was a breeze, my phone call to Comcast only took 10 minutes so I guess I was really lucky. No more cable box!

Cons: You need to know what you are getting into. Most TVs are wired for a cable coming out of the wall or a cable box so all your aspect ratios and bells and whistles are geared towards it. With the unit plugged into my network, I use DLNA and you will see the Live TV option. You give up a little convenience in order to save a buck. The signal and clarity is just as good as before and I'm not being charged for a cable box. Recording works great in Windows Media Player. I had been using a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 card for recording, but after rescanning all my recordings now come in through the HDHomeRun Prime just fine.

Other Thoughts: Only wished I could afford the 6 tuner version!

2 out of 5 eggsRefurb unit lacking manual & CD

Pros: Once I figured out how to install it, it works as expected

Cons: I purchased a refurbished unit. It did not come with a manual or the installation CD, which even though it is "refurbished", I would expect these, or at least some indication that I should download these online. Instead, the hardware only arrived in a box, and I went through considerable trouble to get it to work until I discovered that it needs software to be installed with it. I went to the manufacturer’s website and downloaded it and finally got it to work. This should never happen. At least, if a note was included that I needed to download the manual and software, that would have been better, but I’m very upset with this “refurbished” unit.
