Pros: If you get a working unit. it great with WMC 7/8 and many other backend PVR software. 1 hour of h264 recorded video comes out around 2GB @ 720p.

Cons: Got a bad unit. Even with lastest firmware 2014112 it locks up/freezes within 10 minute of use. It overheated and fan stops working. Afraid it would catch fire. RMA replacement and it is working fine. Not sure if newegg has bad batch for Silicondust RMA out hardware revision.

Why do I need to purchase the Android & iOS app if I want to use it on mobile devices? Expected it to be free.

The typical grandma won't be able configure it. It's not so user friendly.

Other Thoughts: Customer support was nice and fast. RMA unit fedex immediately after you notify them of your return shipment.

Pros: Streams video

Cons: Does NOT come with software to allow easy channel tuning and watching from a Mac. Similarly there are NO apps to allow channel selection from iPods, iPhones, or iPods. And finally, it is NOT compatible with Android Motox because it requires the use of a video encoding not supported by Motorola.

Other Thoughts: They should make this lack of compatibility explicitly clear on their web site. As it is, I was deceived into wasting my time and money returning it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me

Pros: transcoding and dlna

Cons: Doesn't have LED indicators to show which tuners are in use.

Other Thoughts: I've had this tuner for a few weeks and the HDHR3-US for a few months. Both work for me. I really like the LED tuner indicators on the HDHR3 that let me know which tuners are in use and wish the HDTC-2US had them. Otherwise, this new tuner works great. I use it on my Win7 HTPC, my Android tablet, and my wife's laptop. The transcoding works great for me.

3 out of 5 eggscrashes on occasion

Pros: this will be awesome once it stabilizes. h264 streams are great, decent options for the transcoding settings.

Cons: it crashes. i have owned the hdhr prime for years and never had issues with it (aside from comcast getting the mcard authorized). however this device has crashed on me a few times. this may partially be due to going OTA and not having perfect reception. it has given up on a number of shows that i watched ota on another tv with minimal artifacts. seems a bit better using the heavy profile. will try next firmware when avail.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice when it works.

Cons: Even with the latest firmware it drops off the network daily and requires a restart to get working again. Opened a support ticket over a month ago but have yet to hear back. Case 28329. Very poor support communication by SiliconDust.

Other Thoughts: Would pass on this until the issues are worked out.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: NONE

Cons: Dead on arrival. Unit has power but never actually tries to connect to network. So far no response from my trouble ticket I started with the manufacture.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh.

Pros: Tuner availability anywhere on the LAN

Cons: Transcoding is worthless. The video freezes after 5-20 minutes of recording. Audio continues, but image does not change. This happens in over 75% of recordings.

5 out of 5 eggsSchool District Use

Pros: So many ways to configure this thing gives a knowledgeable use what they need to get a job done. Successfully streaming these tuners to just under 1000 systems in our district, with each tuner set to a specific station. If using the encoder just set a scheduled reboot each night since the firmware is in beta using the lastest and let er rip.

Cons: If you don't know what your doing don't post bad comments people. Besides that nothing bad to say.

Other Thoughts: Thanks silicon dust and thank you for taking the time to talk to me by phone about future and current products

2 out of 5 eggsNot right

Pros: Great Idea
Looks good
Good brand - great products

Cons: Lag
Networking issues
Poor Quality h.264 encoder/firmware
Digital blocking

Other Thoughts: This seems like it should have been worked on in R&D for about another year. Just not ready for prime time (TV).
I worked with unit using a local gigabit network and noted a lot of lag and blocking. I was able to connect to it using a few programs and browsers. I updated the firmware so I never noted a loud fan noise, however the other issues continued. Silicon Dust - Let me know when you product has been ironed out I would be happy to try it again.

2 out of 5 eggsBeta level Hardware and Software

Pros: Good idea

Cons: Very poor execution. Hardware and Software are very beta level. Even with Gigabit ethernet the video stutters. Integration with Windows Media Center is spotty at best. Periodically WMC will lose video. Software feels like something I would whip up, not like a product. It certainly doesn't just function unattended for extended periods of time.

Other Thoughts: This is a science project, cool experiment, not a real product. $170 for a science project is a little steep.
