Watch broadcast TV on any device

Tablo lets you watch live and recorded television on any device in your home.
Tablo

Tablo redefines the remote control

One touch of the Tablo interface and you'll never settle for a traditional remote control again. It's visually rich and colorful, intuitively organized and easy to use.
Tablo

Experience better quality HD video that won't tie up your bandwidth

Cable operators compress their TV signals to conserve bandwidth in order to deliver multiple services (phone, TV and Internet) over a single connection. Over-the-Air (OTA) HDTV signals received through antennae are uncompressed, delivering an incredibly crisp HD picture far superior to what you've been getting from your cable provider.
Tablo

The ultimate cord cutting solution

Tablo delivers live, local HDTV broadcast programs you can't get through Over The Top (OTT) Internet content providers like Hulu and Netflix. Catch up on hometown news and sports and watch your favorite network shows live without having to wait until the next day AND without the pricey cable bill.
Tablo
How Tablo Works
Tablo is a next-generation DVR that plugs into an HDTV antenna to capture free, local HDTV broadcast programs including news and sports within the US and Canada. Unlike traditional DVRs that are connected to one TV, Tablo streams content to any connected device inside your home or anywhere you have Internet.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed to FINALLY cut the cord

Pros: Easy setup
Great picture quality (I'd say slightly better than cable but not as good as OTA broadcast on my 65" screen.)
Intuitive/easy to use on Roku 3, scheduling DVR shows and finding what you want to record, and things you didn't know were out there is great.
FFWd function uses thumbnails so you can skip commercials in seconds.
If you want to pay for the guide its totally worth the little bit they charge for it.
You can watch your live TV or recordings anywhere you have fast internet.
Its not an all-in-one package....you provide your own networking, storage, and antenna to fit your needs.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Just buy it already.

4 out of 5 eggsDistributes TV recordings throughout home using wifi or ethernet.

Pros: Excellent picture quality.

Cons: Each live-TV channel change takes several seconds.

Other Thoughts: Here is the secret to how our large household became fully delighted with Tablo. First, we connected our attic antenna to a Channel Master 3418 8-Port TV Amplifier/Splitter. One of the ports was connected to the Tablo. We used our old cable wires to connect other ports to our TV's antenna coax inputs. For live-TV we use the TV tuners. Tablo is used only for OTA recordings. This conserves our wifi bandwidth and solves the problem of slow channel changes when flipping through live-TV.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to Setup, Easy to Use

Pros: Got this because I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10, and I wouldn't be able to use my Xbox 360 as a media extender for Windows Media Center. I tried several other setups before settling on the Tablo. I was ready to spend half a day setting it up and making it work, but setup took only about 10 minutes (including downloading the programming guide), and it worked perfectly right out of the box on every device I own: a Roku, a Mac, a PC, a Chromebook, an Android phone and a Raspberry Pi 2 running Rasplex (Plex). IT JUST WORKS.

Cons: I don't like the idea of paying $50 a year for a subscription to the programming guide, but, even DIY DVR software requires a paid subscription to programming guide for full functionality, and they're a lot harder to set up and maintain than the Tablo, and $50 a year is a lot cheaper than TiVo charges. (The Tablo can work without a paid subscription, but you lose some services and features, such as being able to schedule recordings more than 24 hours in advance.) The Tablo also has no built-in storage, so you need to use a supported external hard drive.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an over-the-air DVR that's easy to set up and use, this is it.

5 out of 5 eggsonce worked great but now terrible

Pros: Used to work very well

Cons: Latest firmware causes me 7 month old Tablo to constsntly crash and reboot when viewing with Roku. Worked great for 5 months until firmware was supposedly upgraded. My system went from very usable to being basically useless. My investments for Tablo 4 tuner DVR, lifetime subscription, big hard disk and OTA antenna installation are $770 of mostly wasted money. Tablo takes absolutely no responsibility and blames problem on Roku. Roku points to Tablo and takes no responsibility. Consumers get no remedy whatsover. Two months later the Tablo support website has many unhappy users but no hint whatsoever of any solution. Tablo support merely states: "We hope Roku finds a solution soon".

5 out of 5 eggsCopy the Recorded Shows ?

Pros: ---

Cons: ---

Other Thoughts: Only one question..

Can you copy off the recoded shows from the hard drive?
(no copy protection on hard drive)?

Unencrypted OTA is legal to copy to my understanding.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Does over-the-air recording and you can playback from anywhere.

Cons: Extremely buggy equipment. I am now purchasing my third hard drive because the company keeps telling me the hard drive I have is the problem. If I continue to have problems after this hard drive, I will dispose of the Tablo.

Other Thoughts: I purchased the Tablo directly from the company in September 2014. I was a huge supporter of the product. Unfortunately I have had numerous issues with the device and have lost all of my recordings numerous times. The latest problem I am having is the device indicates that I have poor reception when I try to tune into a channel. It will not record or show live TV. When I disconnect the hard drive, live TV will display. This has been a recurring problem. So far the only fix I have found is factory resetting the system, which causes the system to reformat the hard drive and I lose all of the recordings. Tablo support wants to blame the hard drive, despite the fact that the drive meets the criteria on their web site and the hard drive will play recordings without any problem. If you buy this product, be prepared for the frustration that comes with very immature products.

5 out of 5 eggsBest OTA DVR So Far

Pros: Totally independent and separate from PC
Plays on almost any device - PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Roku and others
Company committed to continuous improvement
Regular updates and improvements
Guide fee is minimal compared to savings of cord cutting.
Makes cord cutting feasible. Netflix, Hulu, Vudu are great but you really must have local channels to feel connected to community.

Cons: No native Xbox apps. Workarounds to this are clunky
Updates can cause problems and are not seamless
Remote viewing requires moderate level networking skills to configure ports.
Wife frustrated when updates caused hiccups.

Other Thoughts: Best solution so far to DVR free OTA TV. Really great device and overall concept. Updates are regular and have offered improved features but have initially caused problems. I just had to reformat drive and reset Tablo to factory and all was well again...with new update installed. This sounds extreme but takes about 5 minutes. Would totally recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Easy setup and use.
Dual tuner for mutiple show recording.
Works with my Roku's.
Small and easy for remote setup.
Hooks to router and setup is a breeze.
Have router, disk drive, and antenna in bedroom closet so no mess for entertainment center.

Cons: Must buy hard drive, antenna.
Roku Chanel is being upgraded but current Roku chanel is not ideal.
Runs pretty warm.
Not all harddrives are compatable.
Monthly fee for guide.

Other Thoughts: This is great for cable cutters. Been using it for a while now and srteam my local chanels through the house.
Records smartly and playback is great quality.
Have had a couple hickups with live TV playback, but firmware releases are making it smoother.
I can't wait for the new upgrades to the Roku chanel. (Due 1st q 2015)
Currently have to log in using a laptop, or Ipad to change settings and see the live TV guide.
Even with the kinks being worked out, I use my Tablo daily. With Hulu and Netflix, I have more TV than I know what to do with.
Would recomend for cable cutters.

5 out of 5 eggsA bit quirky but really a great device

Pros: Great device support, good connectivity, clean interface, good customer support, nice picture quality.

Cons: Setup didn't work very smoothly, streaming video has occasional "buffering" hiccups, TV Guide service is too expensive.

Other Thoughts: I really love my Tablo. It really is the perfect device for the cordcutter. Tablo+Netflix is a wonderful, complete solution for most TV watching needs. Perhaps you prefer Hulu Plus or Prime. You need an external hard drive, a Roku (optional), and a good TV antenna, so the complete investment is a bit pricey, but it is a one time deal. You will definitely save money in the long run.

The Android app works well as well as the Chrome app on the desktop. They have also recently added Chromecast support, which is really nice. Apparently they also support iOS and Plex, though I've never used them. The best thing about the Tablo is the support for a wide variety of devices.

I have a home network using NAT behind a cable modem and I'm able to stream my TV signal outside my home to my phone or whatever. That is a nice feature.

The Tablo is basically a Tivo that only tunes over-the-air broadcast (and streams to your tablet, get it?). If you don't already know, modern TV broadcasts are digital HD (1080 or 720) and look great. With the included TV guide, you can schedule shows and movies to be recorded and streamed later. It works exactly as you'd expect a time-shifting device to work.

I'd say that the streaming performance is okay. There are pretty regular "buffering" glitches on my setup, however they've been releasing a lot of software updates recently that are apparently addressing the issue. They have several video quality settings, perhaps I should play with those since my home wifi is a bit flaky. There was formerly an issue where the recording would stop if the broadcast signal was temporarily lost however that has been fixed.

In conclusion, I'd say that this is a must-have for the modern cord-cutter, however those of you that insist on a 100% perfect picture will probably not be able to handle it unless you live in a city (strong TV reception) and have a rock-solid network (abundant bandwidth).

5 out of 5 eggsLove the savings

Pros: Ease of use, easy set up, can use with many devices

Cons: Only con is I would like a native app for AppleTV but not the fault of Tablo but Apple.

Other Thoughts: I am really enjoying using this device. I have cancelled cable and saving money every month. My wife was able to adapt without problems which was a big help in cutting the cord.
