5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy

This review is from: SolidRun Video Device CuBox-i2 with WIFI Platform

Pros: Perfect size. Wireless is great but using a gigabit switch is incredible. My house is wired with CAT5e so I have 3 cubox-i's, 1 in each room with TV hooked to a 8 port gigabit switch in basement. Streams everything I can throw at it. So small you can easily fit it into any setup.

Cons: No issues.

Other Thoughts: I have a beaglebone, raspberry pi, cubieboard2, mars board, wandboard, 7 different android sticks and they don't even come close to the quality of this product. If you have an issue, it would be due to third party software bugs.

1 out of 5 eggsCubox i2 Fail

This review is from: SolidRun Video Device CuBox-i2 with WIFI Platform

Pros: Small, low power consumption.

Cons: I own a Cubox I4Pro and both units arrived skuffed and smudged as if they were used. I over looked it and plugged along. Save your time and head ache and get some thing else. Distros worked and was stable with the i4Pro. The i2 is very buggy and most of the distros do not support it. AGAIN SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

Other Thoughts: Linaro works best but no wifi. Linaro and Ubuntu crashed repeatedly. Even after upgrades.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Device

This review is from: SolidRun Video Device CuBox-i2 with WIFI Platform

Pros: Comes with A/C adapter and 4GB micro SD card with Android pre-installed. Very compact and portable device can be "purposed" for many different specific jobs. More finished appearance than Raspberry PI, but just as flexible. Built-in Wi-Fi is a huge plus. The HD video output is phenomenal!

Cons: The infrared receiver is a little wasted on this model. Might work better on the one with a faster processor. Although reception is solid, the inner software workings to convert to an action frequently causes either no response or multiple rapid responses with GeeXboX installation.

Other Thoughts: My CuBox has been purposed as a dedicated media center client for UPnP network and internet content by installing the GeeXboX OS. The best way I have found to remotely control the unit is via a wireless handheld trackball mouse such as is used for presentations. Much easier to setup than an IR remote and more reliable. It has no problem wirelessly streaming 1080p content from my network UPnP server.
