5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Netflix

Pros: Great for Netflix.
Easy to setup. Simple enough to use for elderly parents.
Cheap, small, looks cool.
Keeps settings when unplugged.

Cons: Slow, often hangs...but can be easily be reset.
Gets very hot.
Does not support new AC technology.
Does not (yet) show pictures or videos from my Google drive account.
Limited app support.
Only does 1 (but I guess that is why you are buying it for).
Requires Google account and internet access (unlike other media streamers).

Other Thoughts: The price fluctuates between $28 and $36 depending on retailer.

3 out of 5 eggsLimited functionality

Pros: Simple setup. Attractive packaging. Streams enabled content very well. Wireless and power can come from powered USB port.

Cons: Content it successfully works with is extremely limited. The tab casting functionality, is at best, poor and using it with a desktop pc and mouse is next to impossible as it hides the cursor on the screen. The FPS is averaging single digits even on simple pages. no dedicated remote functionality other than software based Android or iPhone apps and the Chromecast extension that only works in the Chrome browser. Though claiming to have "beta" desktop streaming, it's simply unusable at its current implementation. You can't stream media from your PC without enabled third party software, of which the list is short and none of the current products do it in a satisfying way.

Other Thoughts: If you want a simple device that can stream Netflix, Hulu plus, Youtube, and any other/future enabled sites to your TV then this fits the bill. If you want to stream desktop, personal media collection, or were believing the hype about tab casting, you will be sorely disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsChromecast.. good & bad

Pros: • Convenient
• USB power option
• Decent bitrate stream

Cons: The chromecast is hard to get working if you have Verizon or perhaps more specifically the Actiontec MI424WR. After a ton of research I finally found this setting after which it worked perfectly. Network > Connection Types > Home/Office - Wireless > Changed "home/office" to "broadband". Also the desktop casting is in beta and is very choppy latency. If that was fixed I would rate 5*'s

4 out of 5 eggshbo go/

Pros: Some other manufacturer had a list of what devices did what and the chromecast was the only one that did hbogo. Since hbogo was very jumpy on the PC I took a chance and installed this.
To my shock the video was smooth and 1080i on both hbogo and while using my android phone.

Cons: when running the windows 7 app all it did what copy the screen video to the tv with horrid results

Other Thoughts: have not tried netflix, etc
hope the showtime app will be developed
I get the feeling that the device gets the video data directly from hbogo and when using the android but has to get it directly from the PC when running windows 7.
with android the phone merely acts as a video surfaces

4 out of 5 eggsGood but needs more apps, browser, etc.

Pros: - Easy to set-up
- Small out of the way
- Has most standard streams
- Android and PC, Mac support steams

Cons: - No on-board Web Browser, not yet anyways.
- Chrome beta on android devises wonky with browser, it is a beta I know.
- Limited connections for expansions e.g. sd cards, external wireless keyboards etc.
- Not very many apps support yet.

Other Thoughts: It's good, not the best for streaming. It will need time to grow, and I see good things for the Chromecast. Not like the Roku's yet but close enough. Not many way to connect other wireless keyboards or mice to it, although mainly it is controlled via your phone or tablet, pc, and mac devices. Some android tablets I have as still a bit wonky to use with it. Would I recommended it? Yes and No, there are still work in progress made to it via updates, and future apps coming, so it's hard to say.
