can I install two of these cards into one machine to have 2 different sources?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you have two PCI Express ports on your mother board. 
But if you are going to have two inputs, I would suggest other Blackmagic products.

Question 2

Can i use this card to stream live video to the internet?

Accepted Answer

No, this card is not intended for this type of activity.  The data stream coming off this card is in two forms, raw uncompressed (in which case 5 mins of video will consume > 1 or 2 gigs of HD space) and MJPEG compressed AVI -- which consumes less space but is not the standard compression like MPEG2 or H.264 standards.

The card you want (if you are looking for HDMI input) is the hauppauge colossus.  It will compress directly to H.264, using little or no CPU time, and has software to allow streaming to the internet as part of the pacakge.

will this card capture from an analog video source or just digital?

Digital. Although it has an HDMI and an SDI input connector, I could only get the SDI to work. So I needed to have an SDI video source to be able to receive video. I purchased an HDMI to SDI converter. I used it with Adobe Flash media encoder and Wirecast for live streaming and capturing.

Do the drivers allow more then one card to be active at a time?
Can I use two or more at the same time to capture multiple video feeds?

Accepted Answer

The drivers will be installed for each individual card in your system. It works in a similar way to connecting multiple webcams to your system, and selecting the one your want to use in Skype. The included software, Blackmagic Media Express, is only capable of recording one video stream at a time. Depending on your application, you may need to look into other vendors to provide multi-stream recording software. Blackmagic also makes several larger DeckLink Cards that can scale up to 8 HD-SDI Inputs and Outputs. However, if you are looking to record just one stream at a time: you will be able to capture from any of your installed cards, and switch between them in the menu.

Question 5

can I use this card just for viewing my hdmi satellite feed in full screen on my PC?

Accepted Answer

If you have an application that will recognize it it can display what is input to it.  It is an input device primarily for feeding cameras or other input devices through SDI or HDMI.  Keep in mind that HDMI has some copy protections limitations with what it will display relative to broadcast material  or other protected content.

Question 6

Will the captured video from HDMI camera output be displayed simultaneously on the computer monitor without  software?  With software such as  Da Vinci, scopebox or On Location? With added output PCIe card or substituting an Intensity pro 4K PCIe card?  Or can it only be viewed post capture?

Accepted Answer

Without software, no the video will not be displayed on the monitor. Depending on the software you use for capture (I do not use On Location / Da Vinci) Open Broadcaster / Premiere give you the ability to view a live capture window at full frame-rate while recording and also prior to recording when in preview mode. The bundled software that is included for capture does as well wants to record at full frame / uncompressed lossless video and because of that it requires you to have very fast and very large hard drives. However, you are able to compress on the fly with most modern CPUs to H.264 and given the correct settings for your needs can get a great quality at very small file size.

Question 7

Can I record sports games from Direct TV as I watch them?
I am about to upgrade my Direct TV box, but I'll lose all the stored games. I want to be able to save them to my computer.
It's just for my personal use. I have video tapes of my team going back to the '80s.

While I can't instruct you as to the legality of recording college or pro sports from DirecTV, I have successfully recorded from the major networks.

Any provider can request that DTV enable HDCP per program.
Obviously, you are not able to record movies.   The Decklink cards
are not able to support HDCP.

Audio has only been stereo left and right using the included 
Media Express software.
