4 out of 5 eggsSurprising little device

Pros: It works! I was surprised because of the low price and the mfg's claims. Also, it is an Android device and I know nothing about Android, but I didn't have to. Plugged it in (1080p TV) , selected my wireless network, install the apps I wanted and removed those I didn't want and I was in business. I installed a different Launcher because the installed Launcher stopped working every now and then. The new Launcher solved that problem and the performance seems a little better. I also installed Mozilla and a wireless mouse for web surfing, The included remote also works instead of the mouse. I might add a keyboard to speed up typing. I have used it to stream my own music and recorded movies and TV programs (Play On app), Max movies (Max app), AandE and CBS programs.

Cons: Does not support 5 ghz Wireless. It should for streaming movies and TV.

Quality of streamed programs on 2.4 ghz wireless varies from time to time.

Other Thoughts: For the price (I bought it on sale and with a rebate), no complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsnifty device

Pros: Ugg, 9/24 & 9/23 commentary.

Single core. Manufactures who never say 'dual core CPU' means it is not a dual core. Reading comprehension will take you a long way. Fully expected a single core device. Nowhere does FAVI spec dual core.

There are ARM Cortex-A9 dual and singles of various speeds. This is a single core device.

Finding you have an 8GB model when you paid for the 4GB is quite the bonus. The item is then beyond docking any eggs.

CWM, no. It is simply Android Recovery Mode.

Cool the Mfg website offers instructions for rooting of 4.0.4. Though I chose not to mess with that and am checking out JASS. Happy to deal with bonus onboard storage. Thank you FAVI! Frowns to mad-nines-man

Cons: Entering recovery mode. Paperclip trick is not a pleasure.

Other Thoughts: You will want a USB mouse & KB. BT mice / KB will work, but you have to get BT connectivity software from the market to connect BT devices. BT is not part of this ICS build, sadly. Using the market apps will save you the annoyance of buying the pricy FAVI candybar BT KB. Old iogear BT adapter works as does the one bundled with the vt2012. See the play store for the BT KB app.

It is pretty cool to install your favorite apps from the market on a big screen.
Become familiar with the android KB shortcuts, it will make things better.

3 out of 5 eggsCorrection

Pros: Correction-it;s only a single core A9 running at 1 ghz.

Cons: Specs are not clear on website or Newegg so deducting an egg.

Other Thoughts: most people will want to hold out for a dual core or quad core unit.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks better than expected

Pros: Includes a version of CWM built in for flashing alternate roms. There is a rooted version on their website and flashing is not hard. There is a better alternate rom called JASS located on xda-developers.com

Includes a simple ir remote(line of sight) for configuring the unit.

Running full version of Android ICS 4.04 so you can run almost any Android App you already own and use on phone or tablet. No Google TV version necessary.

Not as sluggish as expected. Any speed issues has to do with Wifi controller. But you can plug in a USB wired controller if wifi isn;t going to work.

able to connect USB drives and USB keyboard and mouse to it.

Cons: Wifi controller is a little weak

HDMI extension cable could be longer than 6 inches but atleast they give you one.

Included remote is a little weak too but again, atleast they give you one.

Other Thoughts: Bought as shell shocker deal for 45.00$, 35.00 after mail in rebate. Price is the main driving factor. Bought the 4GB version and I think it;s actually the 8GB one. I have about 5.59 gigs of free space on it;s internal sd card.

Not the fastest stick out there(the specs are a little sparse), I think it;s a Mali 400 GPU with a Dual Core A9 Processor running only at 1GHZ with 1 GB of RAM(better than the 512 in most older smartphones). It works better than I was expecting-I was expecting alot of lag like on my old Nook Color. no cpu hit when I am streaming video-i loaded OS monitor and let it run resident then hit the F2 key.

to simulate phone hardware buttons on a standard keyboard, esc is back button, f1 is menu, F2 is notification tray info and F4 is home.

Biggest pro is that includes a version of CWM Recovery-not sure of the version but basically this means that you should not be able to brick this thing unless you go totally crazy and wipe it out. CWM is the program built into the bios that lets you.

Biggest failing of Google TV devices is that sometimes they needed a special version of an app mostly because of the x86 CPU but also because of screen orientation issues. I;ve had less problems with this unit thus far.

to the guy having issues with firmware update, unzip the firmware zip to a micro sdcard, use a paperclip to hit pin button and plug in and release the paperclip button when the logo shows up. the update should happen automatically. since CWM is built in, you can;t brick this unit.

hope it lasts and doesn;t overheat or die.

3 out of 5 eggsSmart TV on any TV with HDMI

Pros: Can turn your TV into a Smart TV.

Cons: The HDMI cable stopped working after about a week.

Other Thoughts: The remote included will allow you to navigate the system but it is best to either hook up your own keyboard and mouse or to buy their remote. You can also add a USB hub to connect multiple USB devices.

5 out of 5 eggsNo longer have a cable bill

Pros: Quick enough. Works great with FAVI wireless mini keyboard. Turns any TV with HDMI connection into Smart TV. No longer have that expensive monthly dish bill.

Cons: WiFi a little weak.

Other Thoughts: I have three of these and they all work great. I have 1 wired to router, 1 wireless and 1 wired to NetGear Powerline adapter to router.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for signage

Pros: Good speed, rooted firmware available from manufacturer! FAVI rocks! Plays 720p remarkably well. Android 4.06 is stable. Works with wireless keyboard and mouse. Price is good, no need for the 8GB version, just add a extra microSD card with your purchase.

Cons: As others noticed, need to remove useless applications but it's a snap with the rooted version. Remote control useless to me. Seems to play 1080p in emulation mode, so not technically full resolution. To be investigated.

Other Thoughts: Can't beat it, remember that it's only a few bucks!

5 out of 5 eggsLoving the SmartStick!!

Pros: I'm connected! Quick and easy set-up. I have a 73" Mitsubishi TV in my living room and a 47" Vizio TV in my bedroom. I plugged the device into each one and it worked great each time. I fired up Netflix without an issue and watched a movie. So great to be able to lay in bed and watch whatever I want on demand and check Facebook too...without getting up!

Cons: I used a remote control app on my phone to control the device, but I will definitely check out favi's mini keyboard - it looks really cool, and it probably makes it easier to navigate.

Other Thoughts: Being able to get on the internet, check e-mail, Facebook, and watch Netflix on my TV is something I didn't know I needed. There's no turning back now!
