5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a pfSense setup!

Pros: This barebone was great cause it comes with a motherboard, fan, and heat sink. I already had the memory and CPU from another old system with a similar mother board. I load pfSense on a SSD drive and it worked right out of the box without having to figure out which drivers to load.

Cons: In the picture it show it comes with a IDE to mini sata converter. Mine did not come with the converter or the IDE cable. But it didn't matter, cause I went ahead and brought a sata to mini sata converter for it. Just watch out just in case you was planning on using it.

Other Thoughts: This is a quiet 1u chassis. I been running pfSense for about a week and a half with no issues.

You will not need rails for it as long as you don't have a cheap rack.

I got the 1u on sale from newegg for $332.00, it was worth every penny.

3 out of 5 eggs***WARNING SPECIAL MEMORY REQUIRED***

Pros: Price.
Size.

Cons: The server only takes x8 DDR3 ECC Registered memory which I had a very tough time tracking down since most of the memory sold is x4.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Economy Server

Pros: NO CD Necessary for installation because you can stream over the network through the IPMI interface. Great feature, very happy to see IPMI becoming a staple with super micro.
6 Sata Ports.
Fits in 19" Wall Rack
Cheap

Cons: Only successfull with installing a max of two HDDs one being a 2.5" and one 3.5"

Other Thoughts: I do a lot of SMB installs and the chassis, remote capabilities, along with the cheap price really make this a great unit for me and my clients.

5 out of 5 eggsWARNING: Special Ram Required

Pros: Great, compact server. I was able to install both servers, along with a shelf behind them for a 0U PDU. They went together pretty easy, were pretty light, and enough room for two hard drives, if you remove the front USB panel. Had

All in all, a great entry level server with plenty of punch

Cons: WARNING: This server does NOT take regular ECC Ram. The ECC Ram I ordered with it did not work. After hours of messing with it, a co-worker found that it took something called ECC x8 RAM. I think the processor itself requires x8, I'm not entirely sure.

Biggest problem, It doesn't appear that NewEgg carries such a beast actually, at least not enough stock to get you to 4+ Gigs. If you go to Intel's website, they list a ton of compatible RAM modules, maybe NewEgg actually carries them, but fails to reference x8 compatibility.

Other Thoughts: Great entry level server. Highly recommended. Just make sure you get the right RAM.
