4 out of 5 eggs3U server

Pros: Would have been 5 stars, but motherboard has a bad memory slot; check with multiple memory swaps.
Since this is the first supermicro product I have ever gotten with anything wrong, I am not going to be to harsh. RMA will hear from me soon.

Cons: bad memory slot.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Quality and Value

Pros: Also found to be very high quality. Much nicer than any other case I've played with. I was most impressed with the screwless rack rails. Motherboard has IPMI, will never buy another server without this feature. No problems at all installing ESXi. Hot swappable power supplies work great, nice loud alarm when an issue occurs.

Cons: Would like one extra molex port behind the backplane. There is only three as of now. I put two 5.25 inch -> 4x2.25 inch backplanes in, and the one I got required 4 molex connectors. Had to get a splitter.

The 5.25 inch bays work great for DVD drives, but the backplane I got had to use special screws that stick out from the sides preventing me from mounting it normally. I was able to rig it up to work, so not a big issue

Other Thoughts: Very impressed with this case, I highly recommend it for anyone looking to build an ESXi host.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh quality

Pros: - Build quality very good, wiring done very professionally
- 5x8cm sanyo 0.55A fans, i'm guessing 5k rpm
- Just add HD's, ram and CPU and you're done
- ESXi compatible (it's in the supported hardware list)
- comes with a laptop style dvd player, I didn't notice this when I bought it so now I have a spare
- takes full height and length pci-x x4 cards
- Internal USB which is nice if you're going to run ESXi off a memory stick. Not my preference but I know some do.

Cons: - Onboard LSI raid controller isn't that good, doesn't handle raid 5/6, installing an after market card is cake though, just remember to buy a sas to sata adapter cable, the standard $30 adpatec one is only just long enough to hit the hd back plane.
- no external sata port (not a big deal)
- quad port nic would be nicer than dual but you can always buy a card if you care
- price - you could buy a supermicro case and motherboard for much less, I only bought as it was the cheapest ESXi compatible dual lga1366 I could find
- might be nice if the pci-x slots were x16, but a lot of server hardware is only x4 anyway

Other Thoughts: My name is Judge!
