Not perfect, but works
Pros: Works and reasonably inexpensive. Makes a decent (small) virtualization host. IPMI and the web management interface (two different things) are handy. For a rack-mount machine, these are relatively quiet.
Cons: Four 2.5" hot-swap drives are sharing a single SATA port. The configuration of the fans is a little worrying. They are just sitting in the middle of the case, without any plastic baffling to prevent air from doubling back for a second run through the fans.
Other Thoughts: We are using these as pfSense routers in schools. The builtin Intel GigE hardware works very nicely. With an Intel dual-NIC PCIe card installed these make an inexpensive and full-featured router/firewall/content-filter.

Maximum IOPS 1U server
Pros: Pair this with a hardware RAID card like an LSI 9240 and four Vertex 3 SSDs and you'll be rockin' throughput. Perfect for a mid-level Apache server, a smokin' fast Win 2008 SQL Server or even a Zimbra server for SMBs.
Other Thoughts: Would like to see Supermicro expand the chassis for redundant power supplies and make room for a higher end 2x E5 Xeon with 4x gigabit ethernet.

Backplane is SAS Expander
Pros: In response to the previous reviewer: The backplane is cabled with a single cable because it is a SAS Expander (and SATA Port Multiplier.).
Cons: Default cabling is suboptimal for best I/O bandwidth. Chassis could be half-depth while still maintaining all features.

Not SuperMicro's best showing
Pros: Low cost, four hotswap SSD bays, dual gigabit, quiet for a 1U system
Cons: Out of the box, only one drive bay functions. Only one of the four hotswap bays is actually connected to the motherboard, and no cables are provided to allow you to connect the other four, nor is it mentioned anywhere in the manual.
Other Thoughts: It took me an hour to figure out why the hard drives weren't recognized, until I realized that only one of the four bays are actually cabled in, and I was using two of the three that aren't.
