When ordering memory, do the modules need to be installed as multiples of 4?

It will run with any number of modules, even with 1. It will use interleaving and run faster with 2 or 3 modules (fastest with 4). However, you need to have both CPUs installed in order to use all 24 slots, with just 1 CPU you are limited to 12 slots.
