Excellent iSCSI solution for SMB
Pros: Excellent no-hassle North American support staff. Extremely reliable iSCSI target with three Windows 2008 servers connected for over a year now. Running legacy SQL databases off of this share, as well as file server target and backup server target. Try to find another BYOD 16 bay iSCSI device in the price range.
Cons: Configuration interface and initial setup are a little challenging. What do all the acronyms mean? UX is lacking.
Other Thoughts: Don't put cheap 'green' drives in this or in any RAID configuration unless you want constant frustration and frequent drive failure. Spend the extra for enterprise class drives that are meant for always-on operation. We don't use the NAS portion at all. Strictly iSCSI.

Decent Performance but NAS is Flaky
Pros: A decent successor to the Promise VTrak series.
Cons: Have 3 of them-- had to RMA the controller in 1 of them within 60 days of purchase. NAS implementation is poor. Built-in replication only works with other VessRAID units on the SAME subnet, and since it ONLY replicates NAS volumes (not ISCSI) the replication is unreliable. See comments below.
Other Thoughts: NAS implementation is poorly designed and unstable. I created a NAS volume to share as the office's PUBLIC drive, but transfers were sluggish, connections would stall or completely die in mid-transfer. Jumped through all the hoops with Promise support to no avail. The built-in replication between 2 VessRAID units ONLY works with partners on the **SAME SUBNET** so forget about replicating between 2 units separated geographically, such as main/branch offices or for disaster recovery purposes. Also, replication is ONLY supported on NAS shares, not ISCSI volumes-- and NAS replication is flaky and unreliable (as described above). But if you plan to use them for ISCSI ONLY, definitely consider them.

Horrible Product. Simply does not work
Pros: Cost is cheap, but the product plain old does not work, so you are throwing money away
Cons: Does not work as advertised, constantly corrupts filesystem, is extremely slow, piece of junk
Other Thoughts: This is an absolute waste of money. DO NOT BUY THIS!! The product advertises that it can do iscsi, CIFS, and NFS. It however nowhere states that if you actually do use both NFs and CIFS, it will not work and will corrupt everything. Adding a user works..until you delete the user. After deleting the user, you can never again create a new user by that name. it will not allow it. We have gone through 3 replacement mainboards and the same problem consistently occurs..if you try and create a new volume, it will corrupt all the other volumes. Support is pretty much non-existant. they only offer support for this product from 9amEST-5pm M-F. Good luck buying this, having the "filesystem corrupt" error message appear on the system (about once every 2 days) on a weekend and then actually getting support on the line. they will simply refuse to help. Their latest response is that they think that actually using two file sharing protocols is an "edge case" that they have never seen before. Really???
