Fine Card
- Pros: Works as advertised
- Cons: Slows boot time significantly
- Other Thoughts: Users who knock the card because it doesn't work with SSD drives are uniformed and uneducated.
If you buy a non-SSD card how can you knock it? Makes absolutely no sense. It is not tested to be used with SSD drives because it is NOT AN SSD CARD.
Users should read the product description before buying and stop making uninformed purchases, and then they blame the product for their ignorance.
ADAPTEC=Trouble
- Pros: Good Customer Support. Badly engineered product.
- Cons: Card doesn't work with SSD drives. I have tried to setup a RAID 0 with 3 60 Gb OCZ SSD disks and it always drops one with no apparent reason. RAID 0 with two works, but read/write performance is worse than single drive. NO 128 Kb STRIPE SIZE!!!! My Old SIL3132 had that. Still use it, but it is SATA 1.0a compliant. They have never tested this card with SSD. Their HD support datasheet is extremely old.
- Other Thoughts: Do not buy it!. It won't work with SSD. Go with Areca Arc-1210. 3 times more expensive, but it is all worth it. RAID expansion and migration on the go.
Update of Review
- Pros: Occasionally the card works as advertised.
- Cons: Really poor technical support.
After 4 months of trying to make this card work, the computer still hangs (only when the card is installed). The hang-ups occur 2 out of every 3 boots. It is at this same point that the card polls the drives. Tried two different drive manufacturers and three different models and the card still hangs intermittently. Adaptec first RMAed the card, then said it was a hard drive problem, despite my pointing out that this occurs with two different manufacturers drives.
By hang, I mean that XP (32) SP3 displays the start-up screen, the worm goes left to right and then the card's status lights start to flash. After eight flashes, if everything goes well the attached drives are polled and XP continues booting. If not, the status lights rapidly flash another 5 times and XP hangs - never recovering.
Now Adaptec tech support simply won't respond to my questions. I guess when you are stumped not saying anything is a response in itself?
- Other Thoughts: Newegg, you want this card back after four months and one RMA?
Won't be buying any Adaptec products again...
