The Series 1 family of Adaptec Unified Serial host bus adapters (HBA) offers the ideal economical solution for customers requiring I/O connectivity with hard disk drives (HDDs), tape drives, tape libraries, tape autoloaders, solid state drives (SSDs), RBODs, removable media or removable HDDs.
Incompatible w/ Intel RAID
This review is from: Adaptec 1045 2259500-R SATA/SAS 4 external ports non-RAID Unified Serial HBA Card
Pros: Cheap, but you don't even get what you pay for with this one.
Cons: Completely blocks booting from an onboard Intel RAID volume when using the two newest Adaptec BIOS', at least on the two Asus motherboards I've tried. Using the two older Adaptec BIOS' allows the RAID volume to boot, but then the motherboard BIOS hangs with a black screen when the OS tries to "restart". Not good for remote managed servers.
Other Thoughts: Adaptec support has no solution and no interest in refunding my money. I should have bought this from Newegg as they may have been sympathetic and refunded my money despite it not being their fault. No more Adaptec for me.
