5 out of 5 eggsAn Excellent Replacement to Onboard RAID

Pros: 16 Ports on this card!
Easy to install and setup
Great Performance
FAST
Beats onboard RAID
Bought 3 of these

Cons: MaxView software can certainly be improved - but I can work with the card without ever touching this software!

Other Thoughts: Got sick and tired of the Intel on board RAID always getting corrupted and having to go through a royal pain process to attempt to recover. On board is not true RAID unlike these cards which do support true RAID. While you do not get RAID level 5 or 6, the RAID levels provided should be more than sufficient for many. Love the support right off the bat for 16 drives. Will no longer buy motherboards with tons of ports - just buy this card instead!
Add on a 40 MM fan to keep the card at around 40C

1 out of 5 eggsAbysmal

Pros: You might get decent performance for a few weeks

Cons: Absolutely terrible product, a nightmare. Intermittently, the web software, which is the worst authored product of its kind I've seen, fails to detect the card. Write performance with SSDs took a nosedive in a few months all the way down to 5mb/s random 10-20mb sequential. Array was showing degraded during POST but the MaxView software showed that it was fine. Stay away.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well in Windows 7

Pros: The card detects drives, is rock stable, is fast, and is plug-n-play with Windows 7. I use the card for hardware RAID-0, hardware RAID-1, and HBA passthrough. It has not hiccuped once with the RAID-0 arrays, which is more than I can say for the Adaptec 6405 and 6805.

Cons: maxView does not work. I have had to configure the arrays in BIOS, but that is not such a big deal for this card since RAID-0 and RAID-1 arrays do not take long to set up and initialize, unlike RAID-5 or RAID-6.

Other Thoughts: For the ignorant user who complained about this card not having hardware RAID-5 or RAID-6 functionality, those features cost a whole lot more. The trend these days is to expose the drives directly to the OS for fancier high level drive management than hardware RAID can provide. This card is great for adding 16 ports while occupying only a single PCI-E slot. I hope to use it in the future as a 16-drive HBA for ZFS.

Pros: can connect a lot of drives for the price point

Cons: can only do raid 1, 1EE , and 10. if you are going to buy a card for a raid and want to connect 16 drives, who in there right mind would buy this card. when it doesn't even do raid 5 or 6. I bought this card thinking it was the other one that isn't the "E" for a Christmas present, thinking that it was on sale, to myself when I finally got the money together to get 16 drives of the same kind, guess what I found, no raid 5 or 6. so save your money on this card and buy something else.

3 out of 5 eggsMaxView is killing me

Pros: The unit works and recognizes drives.

Cons: maxView and the command line software is really buggy and hard to use. Frankly I would have expected more from this company.

Other Thoughts: I may give this more stars if I can get the RAID to work, but one should not have to work this hard to install a raid.
