2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: It was able to add 2 additional hard drives, but with a catch.

Cons: BSOD upon resuming from sleep.

Other Thoughts: It did not meet my expectations. It can barely do the most basic of tasks. I gave the 2 rating only because it technically worked. The drives were recognized and accessible.
I built a home server using a Z77 mini-itx motherboard with only 4 SATA ports. I wanted to add 2 additional hard drives so this seemed like a good deal. I'm not using it for a RAID or trying to boot from it . I have a current (at the time at least) motherboard. I tried the drivers that came with it. I downloaded the newest drivers from the web site. I even tried a clean Windows install. There was no difference in the results. If you purchase this card, I wish you the best of luck.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Installed this into an old Asus Maximus II Formula, connected 2 Red WD 3T drives, Win 7, installed drivers from the cards website and had RAID 0 Mirrored up and running in about 5 mins.

Cons: None, does what they state it will.

Other Thoughts: PCI x1 is slow, that in mind a good value.

2 out of 5 eggsKoutech IO-PESA230

Pros: Cheap price for what options/performance is advertised

Cons: with website driver installed after card was inserted, card performed only as fast as a sata 3gbs and the thru put was considerably lower than my on board sata6gbs

1 out of 5 eggsKoutech IO-PESA230 PCI Express

Pros: cheap if it did what it was supposed to

Cons: speed is half of what mb sata6 is. driver loaded properly from website and retried and nothing, no improvement.
I put other previously purchased i/o card and lo and behold it works at speeds barely exceeding my m/b.
Tried switching to another pc and still slow speed. maybe a dud. I donno.

1 out of 5 eggsavoid this card at all costs!

Pros: None.

Cons: Card literally went up in smoke on its inital boot. I was able to power down the machine almost immediaelty, but am not yet sure if it melted the motherboard's PCIe slot.

Other Thoughts: I've built dozen's of PCs before and have never had something like this happen. Pretty scary.

4 out of 5 eggsgood card, a little pricey

Pros: Works fine so far. Easy to install.
I'm not booting off of the drives connected to this card, but both drives read and write just fine. I'm also not using for RAID array, for what its worth.
I read all reviews before purchase and wonder if some folks are trying to use this with older motherboards that don't support SATA III. That is no fault of this card.

Cons: Not necessarily a con, but card is very short and small. For large cases, use 24" cables.

Other Thoughts: I read all the reviews before purchase, so I'm not using this card for boot drives but extra 3tb storage drives. I wonder if most of the negative reviews are from users with older mobos that simply don't support SATA III? A lot of it seems like user error.

If you have a large case, you'll need 24" SATA cables. I have a Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 and the 24" calbes reach perfectly from this card to the hard drive bays.

2 out of 5 eggsWe will see how long it lives

Pros: Once physically installed and connected to Western Digital Red WD20EFRX 2TB drive, Windows 7 recognized it without further fuss... for a while. I initially went to the KOUTECH website and tried to install the downloaded drivers from there. If it doesn't take the first time try again.

Cons: Windows System wasn't happy with the driver it had, and thats where the fun starts. AVOID THE CD. The MARVELL utility that is installed from the CD has a bad security certificate, and if you choose to take a "Spin the wheel and see where it stops" attitude (like I did) you get System Crash - Blue Screen of Death.

Other Thoughts: This card got me where I wanted to be with a bit more mucking around than I like (The printed "Instructions" leave much to be desired) but cherry picking info out of the directions, and wrassling the driver from the website, you get there. Maybe I am spoiled, this is the first adapter card that wasn't an Adaptec I have bought.

5 out of 5 eggsSECOND REVIEW

Pros: Works fine.

Cons: Wasn't easy.

Other Thoughts: Bought 12/2011. Gave a 1 Egg review in 03/2012 because all sata hard drives had to be disconnected (msata for system drive) on any restart for the IO-PESA230 to work and their support was useless. Started working with a win7 update. Works fine since then, ordering another today.

4 out of 5 eggsImproved Data Throughput

Pros: Faster Data throughput with my new 1TB drives. I estimate about 70% faster than using SATA II.

Cons: Haven't discovered any yet

2 out of 5 eggsGive a larbage; this is garbage.

Pros: Adds two devices... if you're lucky.

Cons: Slows down OS boot from about 33 seconds up to 5 minutes. This is not a hyperbole, I am quite literal.

Other Thoughts: I am not booting OS from the card.

Using Windows XP 64-bit.
