5 out of 5 eggsSolid workstation

Pros: I bought one of these with a Core i7 processor, 16G ram, a handful of hard drives and a GTX model graphics card. I am using it as a combination Linux server/gaming machine/workstation and I have yet to really tax this system. I like nearly everything about it:

-It is super quiet, even when running under load. My Xbox 360 requires earplugs after sitting in a room with the ESC1000-G2 all day.
-The motherboard has the higher quality solid capacitors; something I have come to appreciate after seeing the cheap ones fail time and time again.
-PLENTY of space for cabling, gigantic graphics cards and ungodly amounts of RAM--8 DIMM slots woohoo!
-Hot swap bays; check!
-Very nice, modular power supply. I especially like the fact that you can remove cables you don't need.

I could go on, but you get the idea. Everything seems to be built well and laid out intelligently. There is one BUT, see below...

Cons: ASUS, feel free to respond here.

I would love to make use of the second drive bay to have a total of 8 hot swap trays. Sure, it looks possible, you can remove the grill and the chassis mounts exist; I have enough SATA ports, surely I could just go on ASUS' website and order the backplane, cage and drive trays right? No. At least I have not found the exact part numbers I am looking for and ASUS support was less than helpful--though I will say they did respond promptly to my questions, just not with the answer I wanted to hear. They told me to look on Newegg or another online marketplace [sic] for these parts. That search was fruitless so I am not really sure what to do next. They do have similar looking parts in their eStore, but the descriptions conflict with the pictures. For example the backplane says it is for SAS drives, but the connectors are clearly SATA in the images, and since there are no technical specs on any of them I am not sure what to believe. Anyway, I intend to buy these parts and pray the 14 day return policy their representative told me about is not as impossible to navigate as the eStore. This is my ONE complaint, but it is a big one to me. Everything about this system is rock solid, except for their support.

Other Thoughts: If you want a solid performing, quiet workstation for a reasonable price, you can't go wrong. Just be prepared to provide your own technical support.

My rating would be a 4 if I were to factor in the support issues, however, I am restricting my rating to the machine itself so I am giving a 5.

5 out of 5 eggsivor

Pros: Easy and quick to deploy, more affordable alternative to 2/4u racks

Cons: No cons, minus the previous ssd confusion with mounting.
Can directly mount on one side only and it's sufficiently secure.

Other Thoughts: 3x titan + 1 quadro. So far no hiccups.

Running CUDA sims for 3 days steady with no drastic temperature peaks.

3 out of 5 eggsIssues with SSD mounting

Pros: Good package of quality parts.

Cons: I have yet to find a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter that works with the hotplug HDD tray. A bit of a issue if you want to use SSD, or the SSD cache feature as advertised. Contacted tech support which has no knowledge of this problem.

Tried OCZ adapter, Silverstone, and a generic one. All doesn't align the tray properly.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Workstation

Pros: It was easy to configure. It runs cool. Do not have any issue in assembly it. I am yet to test it in all respect. Still now it look fine to me

Things you may need to buy
a) CPU ( of course)
b) GPU card
c) Hard Drive
d) Physical memory

No need to buy any cables

Cons: a) It is pretty big and heavy.
b) Initially it was difficult to boot the system first time with 24 GB RAM ( 8 GB * 3). I later tried to boot system with 16 GB ( 8 GB * 2) and everything went fine .Later on I added another 8 GB easily into system. Probably I ad encounter the issue since I building system for first time.

Other Thoughts: I would try to provide regular update to you.
