4 out of 5 eggsGreat little box.

Pros: Sturdy metal enclosure which appears well built. Transfer speeds are considerably higher than USB external enclosures. I was able to eject the drive tray while the unit was connected to my QNAP NAS without issue (hot swappable). Includes a riser card to connect to SATA port headers on your motherboard if you don't have a dedicated eSATA out. Drives cannot be ejected from enclosure without a push key (or paperclip) which they include. So you can't accidentally pull a drive out.

Cons: Not really a con, but be aware that there are 2 eSata connections on the back of this unit. Each 3ft cable feeds one of the drives. They will be visible as independent drives to your computer or NAS. The instruction sheet is terrible and generic for the line of enclosures. It took a moment to realize you have to remove the support bar from the drive trays to be able to install your drive. The silver model looks a little cheap, wish I could have got a black version. The orange fan LED is very bright... almost annoying. The external eSata cables are very stiff and they could cause issues if you are installing in a tight space.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking to span drives this isn't for you. You'll need a RAID capable enclosure to be able to do that. For me the 2 independent drives work great for backup targets for my NAS. They box says the unit only supports 1Tb drives, but the website (and Newegg) state 3Tb. I've tried a 2Tb without issue. I would have given it 4 1/2 stars if I could.

4 out of 5 eggsSans Awesome

Pros: Silver color, true hot-swap ability, has a lock on the hard drive trays, 2 eSATA cables (2ft, I believe), Long enough power cable (4ft, I believe), warns you of overheating, blue LED lights, easy instructions, 12+4(4 screws connecting a bar to the tray, you'll see if you get it), 4 keys, an eSATA port with 2xeSATA connections for the desktop, Everything is bagged or tied together, has some weight to it so you'll be more proned to leave it where it is. JBOD, so any drive, any time. It's cool to the touch even after 4 hours of working (probably the hard drive's fault though).

Cons: I absolutely detest orange LED lights. Make it a different color for the fan light or leave it off....I believe anyone can hear the fan running. The blue LED light gets annoying after the first 10 minutes of blinking, but at the same thing it's a pro because you know the hard drive's running. The 4 keys could have been made of metal instead of plastic.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Unit!

Pros: -Solid quality build (metal)
-Fast install
-No software needed
-Great speed on connection
-Cools the drives
-Alarm to alert you to fan / heat issues
-Size, it is small sized (footprint) and can fit anywhere
-Cost

This is just a well built product that came in handy. I added it to my home server and it just works well.

Cons: none that I can find. The only minor issue I have is that it did not have a sata to esata adapter. Some people, like me, use older hardware for their 2nd system as they upgrade. Would have been nice to have the adapter. I used an pci esata card and all is good

Other Thoughts: I just want to correct one comment I read. The fan does not blow the hot air out the front, it pulls cold air from the front and blows it out the back. This is the bast way to cool drives. If you were to blow the hot air towards the front, very little would exit and you would cycle the hot air over your drives. This is the same with servers as well. Pull cold from front and push hot out the back.

I have a 1 TB drive in the unit with the stock fan and have no heat issues. The metal and fan do a fine job handling the heat. People - you don't need to improve or mod everything you buy.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Quality

Pros: The unit is much smaller than I had expected, very suitable size for a desktop or to sit on top of your tower. The overall quality of the enclosure is great, very sturdy, attractive, and clean looking. The E-SATA connections are a must if you are looking for a good transfer rate, and this unit comes with all the accessories you would need. Excellent true hot swap capability. I put drives in and pull them out and they are recognized by my system immediately, no fuss.

Cons: The system comes equipped with a small .05A fan that attempts to draw warm air out of the enclosure. The fan is inadequate. My two 500GB drives got very warm. Once I took that fan out, and put a 40mm Server fan exhausting into the enclosure, warm air was blown through the grates in the front and performs wonderfully.

Other Thoughts: I recommend keeping modifying this unit to keep the drives cool. As I mentioned, reversing the airflow is your best option, and going with a higher speed fan sending air into, rather than out of the enclosure lowered hard drive temperatures substantially. Excellent product.
