5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well

Pros: Works as advertised with no issues.

One note, you cannot install a operating system on this SAS/SATA. Its only used as a data storage.

I used 4 Western Digital Red 2TB drives in a RAID5 and have zero complaints for speed or compatibility.

I use it for hosting my websites, my 3 virtual machines and my personal media that I access from other LAN workstations and laptops.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding!

Pros: Lives up to advertised sustained read and write speeds.
Easily handles uncompress HD video stream.
Fan is quiet compared to other enclosures in this category. Awsome controller with many features you would find on more expense cards. Great value!

Cons: The door on the front is plastic and not metal like the rest of the unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGood RAID all-in-one product

Pros: *** This review is actually for the TowerRAID TR8X-BP product but since Sans Digital cancelled that product I thought I would give my thoughts here. ***

Decent enough case. Good power supply from what I could tell. The HD trays are a little flimsy but work okay. I used 8 Hitachi Deskstar H3IK20003272SP (0S02861) drives which are consumer drives but they aren't very fast so the most I ever got in terms of speed on my RAID5 setup was about 350-400 Mb/sec. I assume if I used enterprise drives or even the VelociRaptor drives (WD6000HLHX) the speed probably would have been closer to their 750 Mb/sec as stated on their website.

The RocketRAID 2722 SAS 2.0 card is a decent card.

Cons: The HD trays a little flimsy but usable. I mean how often are you going to change the drives?

The SAS cables are good but a little short. I would have preferred 2 meters instead of 1 meter.

Other Thoughts: Good overall. This is good for a medium user who wants a lot of diskspace -- up to 8 x 3 Tb.

I see now their set up allows 3 Tb drives so that must be the only difference from the TR8X-BP and the TR8X+P.
