1 out of 5 eggsundependable

Pros: Holds a lot of drives

Cons: This box continuously has failed drives. I never trusted it enough for Production.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg has other JBOD units that work much much better than this one and for less money. Take your time and research

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Like A Champ

Pros: Easy setup. Three redundant power supplies, solid construction.

Cons: The rails. I had to manually modify them to make them fit my Middle Atlantic RDR-S6 (a custom rack). It worked out in the end, but was kind of a pain. I would have also been nice if they would provide a spare sled in case something goes wrong with one of th16.

Other Thoughts: It took me about a week to get this and the server setup, but it's been working like a champ ever since. The fan is very loud, but it's a raid case and it moves a ton of air for two fans. If you want quiet, you shouldn't be looking at something like this. This is something that goes in separate rooms. I would definitely buy this again if given a choice of competitors out there. It's worth every penny thus far and it's been a little over a year.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed Worth the Money

Pros: - Excellent build quality and design.
- Unique, but functional drive chassis locking system.
- FULL SGPIO functions (meaning HDD power, activity, locator, and HDD failed lights work as they should).
- Very, very, very fast (drive dependant).
- Shipped with rails, chassis drive bay keys, and redudant power supplies.
- Ability to daisy chain additional units for more storage.

We can read and write around 900MB /sec on a RAID 60 array (16 x 2TB Western Digital Yellow SATA 2). Using an LSI 9280e controller.

Cons: Fans are loud; then again this thing will not exactly sit beside your desk. I'd take the noise over an overheating HDD.

Other Thoughts: When your purchasing any kind of storage device like this you need SGPIO. Some cheaper units don't have SGPIO functions (meaning HDD power, activity, locator, and HDD failed lights). Try replacing a failed HDD in a RAID array without SGPIO.
