The MobileSTOR MS4UM+ is a compact JBOD tower utilizing the latest SATA port multiplier and USB 3.0 technology, where one single eSATA cable or USB 3.0 cable connects to four SATA hard drives. Four hard drives can be access to the computer individually, providing instant storage expansion with ease. Designed with easy installation in mind, the trayless MS4UM+ allows for instant setup by simply inserting the hard drives after opening the protective ventilating cover. Both USB 3.0 and eSATA provide high performance transfer rate. USB 3.0 port is now available with the various systems while older USB 2.0 port is backward compatible. Optional USB 3.0 controller card is available. Port Multiplier technology is widely available in current eSATA port, including home sever, laptop and personal computer, and an optional port multiplier supported eSATA controller can be purchased for added performance and functionality, such as RAID application. MS4UM+ is supported in Windows, Linux and Mac, including storage expansion, home server applications as well as personal data backup. Four hot-swappable hard drives slots are behind the front cover to allow for easy trouble shooting and hard drive replacement. The newly trayless design allows for easy installation. This review is from: SANS DIGITAL MobileSTOR MS4UM+ JBOD (Hard drives are accessed individually) 4 x Hot-Swappable 3.5" Drive Bays USB 3.0, eSATA 4-Bay eSATA Port Multiplier and USB 3.0 JBOD Tower (Silver)
Pros: Worked okay for about 2 months
Cons: Now all I do is swap drives around until I get one of them to get recognized by the system.
Other Thoughts: I don't swap drives often, I don't think I touched the drives until recently when it wouldn't see any of the disks. I pulled one out and all of them were recognized. Now to get data off of one disk I pop it into each slot to see if i can find one that will see it. JUNK. This just pushed me to buying parts to build a nas.
