4 out of 5 eggsHW RAID0 or RAID1 fast and sturdy

Pros: Unit is both USB and eSATA compatible.
Very light weight but sturdy case.
All connectors, power switch, raid selection are on the back.

Cons: With two 3TB HDDs in the SANS DIGITAL MobileRAID MR2UT+ the HDD get very hot. High temperature is destructive to electronics. 3eggs for speed and sturdy case +1 egg.
The tiny fan is not user serviceable.

Other Thoughts: Using two SSD, Windows 7 showed a speed of over 200MB/second for over 5 minutes of coping large files.
The small fan is not a problem when using SSD. The SANS DIGITAL MobileRAID MR2UT+ is very useful for making backups that run only for and hour of so.
Do not buy any warranty and just take the case apart and install a larger fan or buy a much more expensive RAID.
I bet that the fan design was changed after the original design of the unit.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid and somple it does what is intended to do.

Cons: The fan was very loud and the model I received uses a wall wart instead of the standard PC connection.

Other Thoughts: I would have really prefered to no have a wall wart and instead had the standard power cable.

the loud fan issue was the same as another reviewer, quite when upside and loud when rightside up. The noise was caused my a manufacturing defect I was able to fix very easily. One of the capacitors had a drop of some sort of adhesive or insulant on it that would ever so slightly touch the fan. After removing it and bending the housing to give the fan half a milimeter more clearance the fan was very quite.

3 out of 5 eggsOK if you can get it

Pros: Heavy duty, I would feel comfortable standing on it to reach something off the top shelf. Nice trays with ejection doors to hold the drives. Seems like plenty of cooling capability. Straight forward set up.

Cons: Noisy fan, heavy, external power brick

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my boss who was concerned about keeping some extra backups of important files. The fan in the enclosure was bad and made a horrible noise unless the thing was used up side down. I'm handy with this kind of stuff and thought about just replacing the fan. However the device is so heavy duty and well put together, that you would have to practically tear the thing apart just to do the replacement. Sent for replacement and was told I'd have one soon. Unfortunately, they sold out of them, before they could ship my replacement. Now I have to start over.

Also I have used other similar models of this enclosure before and the power supply was build in. This allowed me to power it with with a standard PC power cord. This was had an external brick. Not going to lower the rating for that, but it's something to note.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb

Pros: I have used this site for at least a decade and rarely review anything, but this machine merits my recommendation. After reading the specs and very few reviews, I was hopeful yet skeptical. I have owned many external drive inclosures and this is, by far, the best.
-Solid construction
-2 trays with safety bars to prevent bending
-Trays lock in with a hatch (no chance of the drive disconnecting, even if you shook it)
-Fan to prevent overheating and dust buildup (the pictures don't show it, but there are grates underneath the latches on the front to allow air to pass through. You can actually feel the coolness on the front)
-Plug and play hotswap with ESATA (6TB quick swap is great)
-Comes with ESATA cord and the ESATA chip, as well as USB compatible

To put it simply; if you are shopping for external storage, your search is over.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Other reviews mention the start up beep being loud, and this is true, but what I wonder is why it is necessary at all as there are lights to confirm it is on. Also the mute button on the front seems to do nothing.
Regardless, this is a superb machine.

5 out of 5 eggsWELL MADE ENCLOSURE

Pros: Very well made
Easy to set-up
Fast transfer speeds

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: When I got this enclosure, I was amazed at how well made it was. VERY solid... they didn't go cheap with this unit. Wish it has a larger fan to help cool off the two hard drives. I'm using it for spanning and it works great for my needs. Using USB 3.0 cable and speeds are pretty good. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsNeat Little Appliance

Pros: Small, quiet, fast.
No problems with any of the 6 disks I have tried so far, ranging from SATA to SDD.
Included USB 3 cable is backward compatible with USB 2 systems.

Cons: The internal speaker is a beast, loud and shrill. Cover your ears on start up (Will not remove eggs based on something silly like this)
