1 out of 5 eggsRaid 1 useless

Pros: Worked perfectly until one of the drives went bad.

Cons: After replacing the bad drive and initiating the rebuild the XP OS no longer functions. Error: 0x80090006

Other Thoughts: Should have taken my chances without this card and hooked one drive directly to the ide port.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly use for Windows

Pros: None for me.

Cons: Linux and BSD freeze upon boot after detecting the card. The box claims it supports Linux and BSD. Probably did work at one time. The card BIOS has copyright 2003.

Other Thoughts: I have learned to read alot more newegg reviews. I should have seen this coming.

5 out of 5 eggsNever had a problem

Pros: This RAID controller has never failed to work properly and I've had it for three years, or so. Position of the IDE hook ups make them more convenient than the motherboards hook ups.

Cons: None I've encountered.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support CD-ROM

Pros: None. It's a simple ATA100 controller

Cons: It doesn't support CD-ROM / DVD-ROM / other ATAPI drives. It doesn't say this anywhere in the manual, or on NewEgg. I found this out after my drive didn't work, and I went to the Highpoint web site.

Other Thoughts: The Highpoint web site says that future BIOS / driver revisions may support other IDE devices. Useless!

5 out of 5 eggsGood Storage Adapter

Pros: Bought this card for the OCE/RLM and the price. I can't complain about this card. I have 3 Seagate 750GB drives attached in a RAID5 and it works very well as a media server. It can sustain enough transfer speed to saturate a 100Mbit connection. I'm using a standard PCI slot for this card.

Cons: When copying file from the array to my internal drive the system becomes unresponsive for a time. This may be due to the limited capacity of the PCI bus. If I put this card in a PCI-X slot the problem may go away.

Other Thoughts: For the best performance, buy a MB that has a PCI-X slot.

5 out of 5 eggsCard Works Perfectly

Pros: I read some of the reviews that warned about connecting your drives to the card before installing the drivers. I had only one IDE connector on my new motherboard, and four IDE devices. This is what worked for me. Make a floppy disk from the XP drivers on the card's install CD. Hook up one hard drive to the cards IDE connector. Hook one DVD drive to the motherboards IDE connector. In BIOS, go to Advanced features under boot priority and set it to add-on card. Make first boot device the DVD burner and hard drive the second. Disable 3rd device. Under Integrated peripherals go to On-chip IDE device. Enable IDE Bus master. Under PCI device enable or disable SATA raid mode, depending if you have a SATA drive. Boot system with XP CD in drive. During install, get that floppy in the drive and hit F6 to install aditional drivers. Install Windows. This ran smooth, for me. I then hooked up my other drives and my new system was up and running.

Cons: The cables were poor flat ribbon cables, but I switched to round cable a long time ago.

Other Thoughts: My new motherboard smokes, but I think this card would run fast anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy, Inexpensive Solution

Pros: Inexpensive, straight-forward install

Cons: Manual listed a different card than the actual one I received, drivers worked ok, though.
