4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, very little documentation.

Pros: Works Great with Raid 0 Seagate Cheetahs. Tech support is responsive. Excellent Price.

Cons: Correct drivers are hard to find and install for linux as their support pages are scant and not commonly updated.
You will have to fiddle with this thing to get it to work right.

Other Thoughts: I had to ask them for updated source files so I could compile and install it on Ubuntu Server 13.04. (They posted them the next day). Once I had a working driver, it was a pain in the rear to get it to launch as the drivers had to be loaded (insmod) in the installer and in initramfs after GRUB failed to detect the drive. Works great now, but took a couple of solid days to get it to launch right.

1 out of 5 eggsyou're on your own

Pros: installed fine i guess

Cons: no response from support, very limited firmware

Other Thoughts: I purchased one of these to try to recover some date off of an SAS drive that was in a RAID mirror. Only option to initialize the drive wipes the drive. The documentation was poor but I found something online regarding being able to do a recovery array with different firmware. Of course, that firmware was nowhere to be found on their support site. So i tried to contact support. No response back at all. I didn't have time to keep trying so I shipped the drive off to data recovery.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Controller, Terrible Support

Pros: It showed up?

Cons: Everything.

1. The website does not work, even if I wanted to, I could not update the BIOS.
2. Drives are not recognized by Windows, have to load a driver. This isn't a huge problem, except when you already have 4 other peripherals connected to the machine to get this thing working!
3. Ordered 2, and neither work.

Other Thoughts: Will be avoiding highpoint in the future. If anyone knows where to find the BIOS updates, that would be great help!

2 out of 5 eggsIts ok, I'm sure there is better

Pros: Small, cheap.

Cons: Picky about Hard Drives. My Hitachi drives wouldn't even show up after the driver install in Server 2008. I had to use some older Western Digital drives. I am running RAID-1.

Support is not what I would expect. I can not disable write caching on the raid drive, support basically told me they have never seen the problem before and that I just need to deal with it.

Other Thoughts: I wanted this for the 2 external eSATA ports, which I have yet to try due to me waiting on a part. Internal RAID leaves some to be desired. I understand its a cheap card, but they usually work fine in Windows. I will say it does work, and me needing the write cache disabled is due to the fact that this is a domain controller. Server 2008 log files are filled with lots of "drive cache enabled" errors.
Last High Point Tech device I owned was a HPT370a, this will be my last High Point Tech device.

5 out of 5 eggsServer 2008

Pros: This card configured easy with 2008 X64(I used the included drivers on the CD). The performance is very good. I have configured a hardware raid (mirror) with very little effort.

Cons: There is a speaker that sounds when you unplug an external drive. I could not find any way to disable it. The only to get it shut off is to shut down the machine before you disconnect it. (I was trying to use this channel for a backup drive).

Other Thoughts: I will recomment this card. I will probably purchase a second as a spare.

2 out of 5 eggseSATA Port Multiplier?

Pros: easy to install

Cons: I bought this to replace the RR622 card I fried trying to update the bios in windows. Never do that btw.
It connects to my TowerRAID TR4M-BP but I can't get it to detect more than one drive. I'm open to ideas if anybody has one.

4 out of 5 eggsTrouble starting but pulled through

Pros: Fast easy driver install
Easy raid setup

Cons: Needs more internal ports and free cables
Very slow tech support

Other Thoughts: I initially had problems booting to my os from this card after installation which it kept giving me an ntldr and other files missing error. After trying many os's server 2k8R2, win7, ubuntu, 2k8SP2 all of them had the same problem after install. Updating the bios fixed this issue and make sure when you load the bios file you use the full name with ext. or it will give you a cannot read file error.

2 out of 5 eggsCard will take over...

Pros: Easy install, Windows 7 drivers on website.

Cons: Does not play well with Intel ICH10R onboard raid. Terrible results with SiSanLite using its raid 0 ( 313MB/s vs. 456MB/s with Intel onboard! ).

Other Thoughts: This might work with another setup, but with a P6T Deluxe V2 mobo I could not get my onboard raid setup to boot if the card was installed. You could only use a non-raid OS; change to a raid and board will not boot even with no drives hooked to card!

5 out of 5 eggsPCI Express x4

Pros: How can it be a surprise that this will not work with PCI-X in a Mac when it clearly states PCI Express x4 in the title and on the spec page. Two completely different slots.

Cons: People who provide mis-leading ratings beacuse they don't understand the technology

Other Thoughts: Don't hurt the rating of an otherwise good product because you don't understand the technology

4 out of 5 eggsCompatible with SAS and SATA hard drives

Pros: Works This controller is compatible with my extremely fast SAS drive and 2TB SATA hard drive. The controller can configure drives as single disk for the boot OS or for data.

Cons: Only two cables included

Other Thoughts: Easy to use, the controller card BIOS recognizes the drives. Great operating system support, my system is setup for dual boot for Windows and Linux .
