4 out of 5 eggsLong Lasting

Pros: Cheapish, but not too cheap
1 Meter Long
Work fine at SATA III (600 MBps) Speed
Don't spontaneously go bad after 9 months

Cons: 1 Meter Long
Have read other people have problems with the braiding
No (real) latch at SATA end

Other Thoughts: Have been using a pair of these, continuously, for over 2 years, and have purchased others since. While long service life is expected behavior, it compares quite favorably to a set of Rosewill 0.5 meter cables, costing $1 less, which only lasted 9 months before a channel went out.

1 Meter length is a double edged sword: in a full sized case, longer is better, but in a compact mid-size, the excess length is coiled up like a bunch of snakes.

3 out of 5 eggsWork but poor braiding

Pros: They work. I can see drives on my FreeNAS box after connecting this to a flashed IBM M1015.

Cons: Braiding is awful. They used tape towards the SATA connector ends which doesn't hold at all and isn't crimped. When you try to disconnect the cables by gently pulling on the wire the braiding starts riding down the cable and exposes metal.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy these again just because of the braiding. They're very long tho and can reach far if you need distance. If you just put them in place and never touch them again.. they should be ok. Not sure if the braiding will begin to move on its own eventually though. Need to use them longer.

1 out of 5 eggsHad to return these/

Pros: At least look well made? They do not have locking connectors that would be expected on a decent fan out cable.

Cons: I bought 7 of these for a new 100% Highpoint Raid 6 Build. I spent weeks trying to build with all drives on a single channel going offline simultaneously. I verified Power supplies where solid, and steady voltage first.and then started replacing parts.. My combination was Highpoint 2720, Highpoint ej340s and Highpoint cables. As channels failed, I started with replacing connectors. This solved some channel problems, but at some point I had to replace the new EJ340 units. I had 3 EJ340s and 2/3 of these failed. I am solid now, but Inow have not a single Highpoint cable in this system and I have only one of the original 3 EJ340s in my system. For now I am making due with an older less capable EJ240 on my second cabinet. I will start again ordering EJ340 units until I find one that actually works.

Other Thoughts: Highpoint initialization and OCE processes take almost an order of magnitude more time than they should. Plan on at least a week for any major build. This is a software issue as these are software raids rather than hardware raids.

3 out of 5 eggsSATA cables

Pros: Decent construction. Flexible

Cons: The insulators tend to slide off, uncovering some glue.

Other Thoughts: Bought 2 of these for a NAS build

5 out of 5 eggsMore is better

Pros: It works. It allowed me to add eight 4 TB drives to my pc. The transfer speeds are adequate, though not mind blowing. Generally around 90 mb/s overall for large file transfers (60gb to as high as multiple TB at a time). It has never given me any trouble and was a simple plug and play device in my case.

Cons: I won't knock off an egg for this because it is most likely just the nature of the beast, but it has extended my boot time from roughly 45 seconds to a few minutes.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Cable

Pros: Well constructed and easily maneuverable. The braided sheath looks so clean. Each endpoint SATA was numbered which was a nice unknown perk!

Cons: None!

3 out of 5 eggsSata 2, not 3...

Pros: They work.

Cons: They're SATA 2, not SATA 3. After digging around I finally found out why my SSD's were so slow. I found an image saying "SATA 2" on highpoint's website for these cables. That's basically the only location to find out what speed they are. Pretty much all of the SFF-8087 cables are SATA 2 on newegg and they don't advertise their speeds. Look elsewhere if you want 8087 (36 pin SAS to SATA) SATA 3 speed cables.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy if you're using SATA 3 SSD's. You'll get bad speeds with these SATA 2 cables.
