I bought it late at night and assumed that it had some memory on it. It does not. The firmware demands that you pair an SSD and a SATA drive if you want RAID.

The one positive thing is that it does Port Multiplexing so I was able to present my drives to the OS as JBOD and let the OS mirror them. But it isn't worth it. I'm going to buy a new card.

Cons: RAID only works with an SSD paired with a SATA

Other Thoughts: My mistake in buying this. I'm not docking the card for not having features it didn't claim to have. I just don't see the point of what it offers. And I am docking a point because it doesn't allow RAID of just plain SATA or just plain SSD drives. You must pair them.

Pros: Would be great if it works as you would assume it should.

Cons: I actually have the 1220, the internal SATA model, but they function exactly the same. When I installed it, I had questions. The manual was a joke, a very cruel joke. Like many manuals, it appears to be written by someone who doesn't know the product and certainly doesn't understand what users need to know.

When I tried contacting HighPoint's tech support, I had an absolutely horrible time even getting them to reply. Once I did start getting replies, they were all the same...read the manual. When I explained that I did read the manual and it didn't answer my questions, they would only say to read the manual.

They flat out refused to allow me to call them for help. They also refused to answer the majority of my questions. Thus the comment of "zero support." Since this is such an unusual product, good support would have helped a lot.

No idea if it really works or not. It is NOT simply a cashe so it is hard to benchmark. Why go to the frustration when you aren't sure what it is?

Other Thoughts: This could have been the best thing since sliced bread, but instead it is a total waste of time. It is sad that HighPoint won't help their customers well enough to function.

I think this product is supposed to determine the most used information on your hard drive and keep a copy of that on the SSD. I had to guess at that because the documentation is so vague. If that is correct, you should not expect SSD speeds on everything, just on the most used information. Anyway, that is simply a guess since no one from HighPoint will tell us any details.

I'm a computer professional with several years experience in both hardware and software support. Before I got into computers, I studied electrical engineering. If I'm stumped, think of how typical users would be.

Pros: Works just as it should. This is designed to integrate an SSD as cache on one channel and a HDD or multi-drive array on the other.

Cons: As another reviewer said, the documentation is lousy and doesn't even match the item.

Other Thoughts: Why would someone write a 1-star review for this item, claim above-average tech knowledge, and then states he has "No idea what this product actually does or how it is supposed to operate."

Another reviewer complains because it won't recognize "2 E-Sata San Digital 4 bay (TR4M) units in JBOD mode ...". C'mon guys, this is a cheap 2-channel device. A $200 controller may not correctly handle two distinct channels of JBOD.

Pros: Useful tool for creating your own hybrid hard drive using one SSD and ond HDD. No limits to the size of either drive up to 3TB. Two models RocketHybrid 1220(sata) and the 1222(e-sata). Online downloads of drivers and Manuals are very complete in describing creation of Hybrid Drive.

Cons: Lack of included information. Not sure why Newegg thinks combining one of these units with a JBOD external enclosure is a good idea. The accidental ability of seeing multipe drives when using the external connected to one of the ports on the card is not documented in the manual.

Other Thoughts: This is an interesting device that proposes an alternative to speeding up your data access ability by utilizing existing HDD's in combination with a much faster SSD. Nothing in documentation recommends using multiple drives on either port of the card.

Pros: Fast for a 1 drive system

Cons: Can't get it to work for 2 San Digital TR4M units at the same time

Other Thoughts: I am using 2 E-Sata San Digital 4 bay (TR4M) units in JBOD mode, this card will not find the second TR4M when both units are connected. It does great for 1 TR4M at a time, but not both at the same time. When both are connected it only sees one unit. This card has NO jumpers for assigning the E-Sata drives. The Quick installation guide is useless, The CD docs talk about the jumper (this card is lacking it) overall quite disappointed in the card for my purposes. ANY insight would be appreciated.

Cons: No idea what this product actually does or how it is supposed to operate.

No internal SATA connectors for use with internal drives ... where this would likely shine ... if my guesses at what it is supposed to do are correct.

No specifications listed that credibly demonstrate what this product does or its probable technical capabilities.

Not a RAID solution, which would likely (if it actually worked) be a very interesting product.

Other Thoughts: Every now and then you run across a hyperventilating 12-year-old who has escaped his mommy's supervision and is ranting across teh Interwebz with uncontained excites. They are easy to spot, as they type incomprehensible gibberish that somewhat resembles the English language, only without proper punctuation and grammar use.

I think that HIGHPoint (extra Internetz points for ironic inclusion of "high" in the company name) put such an individual in charge of writing the description for this product. While the description is filled with copious amounts of hyper-marketing action words and excited lingo, the one thing that they forgot to do was to describe what the product actually does and how it goes about accomplishing its designed task.

This does not give me confidence that the manufacturer actually has any real clue as to what they are doing.
