4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Easy to install, nice to have a fast USB3

Cons: Only two USB3 slots

Other Thoughts: Price was very low, works just fine, should have paid more and purchased a 4 slot card. Otherwise good unit.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good.

Pros: None

Cons: This was bent and could not be fixed out of the undamaged box. I don't need it, it was a free add on for the HP Mini server I got, but you would think they could do a better job.

Other Thoughts: This should be removed from the newegg website.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple install and Good to go!

Pros: Simple install. Up and running.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Got it, popped it in and am up and running without issue. Much better than the $14 card I bought on another site that required tinkering with drivers and settings.

5 out of 5 eggsThese cards are excellent, and great sale price $4.99

Pros: I have read all the reviews, and there is some serious laziness and serious overrating of technical skills evident. This controller installed easily. I then booted into DOS(see comments), upgraded the firmware, used latest drivers from "station drivers", and the performance tests I ran returned excellent results. Transfer speeds using 64gb Imation USB 3.0 flash drive exceeded 180mbs. Copying a 700mb .mkv movie took about 2 seconds.

Cons: absolutely none.

I have a question that is a request, would users please stop using the CD that is included with the products? Anything contained on them is outdated. I haven't used one in 20 years.

Other Thoughts: This controller has the Asmedia ASM1042 chipset. Before the item was delivered, I had already downloaded the firmware and drivers from HighPoints support site. I then downloaded the latest drivers and firmware from "Station Drivers", which were updates from the HighPoint versions. You MUST do the firmware update in DOS, and it is a very simple task. Get a program called "Rufus" , to make a FreeDOS bootable USB flash drive, it takes less than a minute. The controller did NOT like the firmware I got from SD, so I flashed back to the latest from HP(HighPoint), which still was an upgrade from the stock firmware. The latest drivers were on SD, and work perfect on my Windows 8 Enterprise x64. The performance of this controller is absolutely outstanding !!!!!!!!!!!!! And all of this for and amazing $4.99.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA costs more than the product

Pros: Couldn't make it past connecting it, so couldn't try.

Cons: I couldn't even give the product a try, the molex power connector broke off the board and was just not able to make a connection. It's a small board though so I guess that's good.

Molex power connector is very weak. Easily breakable and returning the unit costs more than the order itself.

Other Thoughts: Be gentle, it's made as cheap as it can be. And don't pay full price for it for any reason. I can't get it working due to power issues but others may have better thoughts. Molex power connectors are just friction based roughness. My power supply didn't line up for this little board. Would have been happier with a SATA power jack.

3 out of 5 eggsOld Style Molex Connector

Pros: It works.

Cons: Molex Power connector. How many newer systems still have these?

Not as fast as my other machines with on-board USB3 but a definite plus for older systems without USB3

1 out of 5 eggsWorst hardware i have ever bought, ever.

Pros: super cheap after rebate (4 bucks)

Cons: THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR COMPUTER TO REBOOT. Addtionally i was only getting 6 megabytes pers a second transfers at the best case scenario, sometimes it would transfer at 20mbps but only for 2-3 seconds and then it would drop to almost usbe 2.0 speed. This card is a piece of junk, il never buy the "first from asia" products ever again. Even for the cost (about the cost of a micky d happy meal) it wasnt worth it. Even if they paid me to take this i wouldnt install it. The USB ports are to close to each other. It also seemed to have some issues with hibernation (but this is unconfirmed). I started noticing after a few weeks that when ever i touched my a cord that was attached to my gpu which was right next to the usb the computer rebooted (BSOD). Then i unplugged a hotswappable device out of the usb 3.0 slot and it rebooted the computer. It rebooted my computer twice a day only when i touched the component for 2 days in a row. I then removed the usb 3.0 card and the computer hasnt rebooted for 3 days since (this was the only variable). it doesn't give you the speed it promises and it reboots your computer, STAY AWAY.

Other Thoughts: IF YOU HAVE ONE BURN IT.

2 out of 5 eggsBuggy Drivers

Pros: Card and drivers install easily.

Cons: Copying a small file works fine, but when I tried to copy several gigabytes of data, memory utilization shot up to 99% and the computer slowed to a crawl. As soon as I stopped copying, the computer worked fine again.
I uninstalled and re-installed and the problem persisted.

Other Thoughts: I found this card to be practically unusable on a quad-core computer with 4GB of RAM, and Windows 7 x64, unless I'm copying just a couple of small files.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: USB 3 is fast, It does work correctly once installed.

Cons: Why does it need a separate power source from the power supply? It requires a Molex (old IDE) connector but most newer computers have SATA connectors. Why doesn't it come with an adapter?

Other Thoughts: This is a low profile PC Express card which is the newer type, so why does it need an old type Molex connector? The sys requirements do not mention this at all. This is only a problem with the PCs. I guess the Mac doesn't need it. Why??

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Really perked up a USB 2.0 machine when using a USB 3.0 external drive.

Cons: It took 11 days to receive it, which is quite unusual for Newegg.

Other Thoughts: This card copied 47GB from a internal SATA II HDD to a external USB 3.0 Seagate 2TB Expansion Drive at a sustained 99-106 mbps... This is about 5 times faster than the 20mbps I usually get with a USB 2.0 port...

As a reference point, another machine with SATA III and USB 3.0 will copy a sustained 160mbps to the same external Seagate through it's onboard controller.
