HighPoint RocketStor 5122B Dual-Dedicated 5Gb/s USB 3.0 2.5"/3.5" Smart Backup Storage Dock

Pros: * Dedicated ports for concurrent speedy transfers.
* Has worked without issues hooked up to multiple USB 3 controllers (Intel, TI, etc.).
* Supports both 2.5" and 3.5" drives.
* Great for ad-hoc tasks like cloning to/from another drive, wiping drives, etc.
* Good deal when on sale and bundled with a PCI-E USB 3 controller card (although I've never used the bundled cards).

Cons: It's one of the few gadgets I own that's white, and the only one on my desk that isn't black.

Other Thoughts: I've been running one of these for 8 months now. I have another that I purchased last year that I'll hook up to my home server.

This thing would also be even more awesome with more SATA connectivity options like mSATA/NGFF (the latter of which didn't even exist when this thing was made).

Pros: I own *2x [two] of these! bought for $60 (wouldn't pay much more than that but still better device than others in this and similar product categories here and elsewhere!)

*dumb* device...all configuration is handled by software utility from their website, on CD with device too, which communicates directly with PnP/USB driver and storage device objects in Windows (best I can tell) giving Eggcellent performance

Cons: not really a huge issue, worth mentioning that stock USB 3.0 cables with this product are "permanently bound together" thus initially preventing scenarios where "Bay 1 plugs into computer 1", ditto for Bay 2, without an extra cable (which I thankfully had already)

Dual-USB cord is a good idea but too short for many uses.

Cons: They do not spin down, even after unmounting. Drives are sitting there red hot 100% of the time.

There is no on/off button to shut it off, either. A waste of energy and money.

I inquired with customer service as to why there was no spin-down even after the USB cable is unplugged and they said "because the power cord is still attached."

Other Thoughts: Not a great value when you consider the other dual USB 3.0 docks out there for around $30.

Pros: Speed is good; RocketStor is very convenient for backup.

Cons: I had to re-install WHS 2011 and use NVidia drivers for the chipset instead of the XFX that came with the 705i SLI motherboard.

Pros: Simple, straight forward device. I installed this with the RocketU 1022A.

Cons: After several attempts only the #1 slot is working on my Windows Home Server 2011 system. I verified that the device is working (both slots) with the drives I'm using on my laptop (switched drives and cables). I can only test 1 slot at a time on my laptop.

Other Thoughts: The driver downloads as a rar file; so you need to download 7-zip first.
I added this as an issue on 1/10; we'll see how fast HighPoint responds.

Pros: Easy to setup and use. Very fast data transfers in Windows 7 and Windows 8

Cons: Eject buttons are not usefull. Just pull the drives out while holding the base.

Pros: Very fast - much faster than my old USB 2 dock. Each drive has its own USB 3.0 port so it is limited by the speed of your USB 3.0 controller rather than the dock itself when 2 drives are plugged in. Definitely all about getting full speed from two drives at any cost.
Functioning as good as day 1 here 6 weeks after purchase. No issues with the included dual USB 3.0 cable (short, but enough to reach my PC)

Cons: Takes up two USB 3.0 ports on your motherboard (or buy their add on card).
Smart information is not passed through so I can't view it in Hard Disk Sentinel.

Other Thoughts: I didn't install their software, so I can't use the button on the dock, but it works just fine with just the drivers installed and no extra software.

Pros: Nice white color, external power supply, labeled USB cables. Support 4TB drives (Hitachi Deskstar and Ultrastar) and anything below this capacity, used two of these HDD stands to run long generic tests on multiple HDD at the same time using Seagate HDD test tool. Good transfer rates, seen speeds over 100Mb/s.

Cons: Current price (around 90 bucks) is 30% more than I paid for both the stand and additional PCIe controller. Hard drives does not lock well so they are not sitting firmly on their position.

Other Thoughts: Purchased it as combo deal bundled with RocketU 1022A PCIe USB 3.0 card for sixty bucks which I feel is a fair price. Planning to see if I can use this with Synology DS and attach could 4TB as backup. So far happy with it. Cannot comment of long term durability/reliability yet.
