1 out of 5 eggsDoes NOT support port multiplication

Pros: It was easy to install.

Cons: I have two RSV-S8 8-bay external enclosures and bought this believing it support port multiplication, however it does not and ONLY sees 1 drive out of the 16 available.

Other Thoughts: If you need port multiplier support, get the RocketRAID 644L.

4 out of 5 eggs18 Months and No Troubles

Pros: Have successfully used this card with 2 8-bay Sans Digital servers using RAID 5 arrays. Highpoint, though weak on tech support, has a nice web-based app to manage the arrays.
My first card from Sans Digital which would not do RAID expansion. Expansion has been done 3 times flawlessly. RAID verification has also run well.
The web app creates a good event log. Also includes SMART hard drive tests with about 15 status measures for each drive. If you don't need phone support hand-holding, I highly recommend Highpoint RAID cards.

Cons: No phone support.
Support is a 2-3 day turnaround via email.

2 out of 5 eggsCrippled port multiplier support

Pros: Cheap, high bandwidth, no drivers needed (standard AHCI device), good choice if 4 disks is all you need.

Cons: Port multiplier support is crippled for this model - only 4 drives can be seen. (It works with a Sans Digital 5 drive PM tower - but only the first 4 drives are available. The second Sans Digital tower is not visible.) Have requested RMA from Newegg, and ordered the "RocketRAID 644L".

Other Thoughts: Hpt has confusing product naming - I needed the "RocketRAID 644L" and by mistake ordered this "Rocket 644L RAID".

1 out of 5 eggsMissing linux 3.x driver

Pros: Could not get this to work on ubuntu 12.04

Cons: There is no support for open linux kernel 3.x. There is support for the 644 version through development community but not the L version. You are better off getting the 644 version for $20 more if you are using linux 3.x
