5 out of 5 eggsfantastc

Comments: excellent card! the previous guy must be smoking something or he is trying to use this card with novell OES on NSS filesystem, in that case it does only get 2MBs write... until they patch it. if u want to use the specs im talking about use REISER until they patch NSS on OES. anyways on windows works great. got 4 x 300gb maxtors in raid 5 for 900gb storage real fast - copying at about 40-45 MB/s off a gigabit connection
recogmend to anyone

1 out of 5 eggsIncredibly slow write performance

Comments: This card is useless because the write performance is so slow. When a generic ATA drive out performs your RAID drive, then what's the point! I've used this on 3 systems, with different configs, 2 WIndows Server environments and one Red Hat machine. Write performance in both RAID 1 and RAID 5 is about 1/10th the speed of write performance on a normal ATA or SATA drive connected to the motherboard. Avoid if you care at all about performance.

Comments: Great card, great service! I was expecting greatness from this and I received it. Virtually plug and play with FreeBSD.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Comments: This card is a wonderful value for the money. Performance is better in RAID 5 than the Adaptec 2410SA and the price is very reasonable, especially if you are familiar with SCSI pricing for a good RAID card. This was in fact my first experience with SATA and I was very pleased with the slim profile the cables provide. Having such thin and narrow cables makes dedicating a channel to each drive so much easier than with PATA cables, which becomes very cumbersome. I run the card under Fedora Core 1 and am very pleased with its performance.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Linux

Comments: True hardware RAID in SuSe 9.0 right out of the box. Supported by the setup CD/DVD without a driver disk and has performed very well.

5 out of 5 eggsFun with Linux

Comments: I've been using this card on a Fedora Core 1 system for a while. It's a great alternative to SCSI both because the drives are cheaper (isn't the I in RAID supposed to be for "inexpensive") and because IDE and SATA interfaces have longer lifecycles than SCSI interfaces on average so getting replacement drives is easier. 3Ware has done a great job with both the engineering of the card and with the software and drivers. The only place they have fallen down is on the documentation, which is abysmal. The downloadable docs on their site are only slightly better. Performance seems to be very good and tests with hot swapping drives and doing background rebuilds have been quite successful.

5 out of 5 eggsExpensive, but hard to beat

Comments: We used this to build a 1,000GB raid (RAID 0, Striping) with 250GB WD drives.

Everything has been working great. I tried to benchmark it but apparantly every benchmarking tool for Windows cost money *sigh*
