5 out of 5 eggs:thumbsup:

Pros: Have had this card nearly 2 years now and haven't run into any problems using it under various Linux and Windows loadouts. Makes for a great hardware RAID0 boot disk under a 2.6 Linux kernel.

Cons: The price hasn't moved since I bought it back in July 2010.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Real RAID. Installation easy. No seating of the card issues that others have stated. Can be setup to email the admin when their is an issue with the drives.

Cons: Only two ports so no RAID 5 or 6. I know they make cards with more ports but the price climbs really fast for those models. No battery unit for this but that is normal considering the price.

Other Thoughts: I have installed this card for an XP machine and a Server 2008. XP was a pain because one has to make a floppy disk in order to load the driver at OS installation time. Server 2008 worked fine but I downloaded the newest driver first.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks nicely

Pros: Easy to install and connect. Documentation is thorough. I'm not completely clear on why the activity lights sometimes show the card active w/o any disks active with it, but maybe they're just flashing too fast to notice.

Cons: None known.

5 out of 5 eggsThe real deal

Pros: Like the other reviews confirm, this is true hardware RAID. That's why it costs so much. The performance is worth it, too. I've tried software RAID on multi-core systems and it's still doggedly slow compared to this card. I truly noticed the performance difference when I lost a drive recently and absolutely noticed the slower read performance. This thing knows how to split your reads across a mirrored pair. That's how it *should* be done.

Cons: Should have bought the bigger one to do RAID 5 :)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks out of the box - run under linux

Pros: This is a true hardware RAID controller with cache and dedicated processor - relieving main CPU from the job.
I set this up as RAID 0 with 2 x Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive as 1 GB performance raid and I have ~180Gb/s read rates - almost twice faster than 150 Gb Velociraptor

Cons: This is PCI-x 1 controller, so it's own transfer rate is only 2.5 Gb/s, which is below SATA II 3 Gb/s mark... Well, I knew it, just was not ready to pay additional $200 for PCI-x 4 card...

Other Thoughts: Runs with built-in driver under Ubuntu x64 8.04.2 server. The only problem I can not yet overcome is this raid is recognized as /dev/sda - taking place of first on-board sata drive. Not a 'real' problem, but kind of messes up non-UUID based programs and settings.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I currently use many Raid cards and I love using the 3ware raid cards due to the true raid it provides. These 3ware true raid cards make it easy when you need to update linux kernels, no longer do you have to pre-compile a kernel before updating the server! These raid cards have their own processor so you can upgrade/downgrade linux kernels whenever you want without having to worry about raid drivers like other raid cards require.

Cons: No cons yet, been using 3ware for years.

Other Thoughts: If you aren't sure which raid card to get, get 3ware as it'll make your life easier. Especially if you have to work with linux kernels/servers.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat card

Pros: easy to setup, great performance. Software is easy to use. REAL raid, not fake. AAMC has great support. I've used a few of these in different customers computers, only had one go bad, and they shipped me a replacement next day for free.

Cons: a tad pricey, but worth it.

3 out of 5 eggsNot too satisfied

Pros: They finally released the Vista 64 official Drivers for the 9650SE Cards. The Card does in fact work on Vista Ultimate 64

Cons: The Card is giving slower speeds than onboard raid of my intel x48 chipset! Boot up would freeze up on a "restart" if you are using this card and the onboard Raid (of my chipset at least)...

Other Thoughts: I did an RMA after plenty of troubleshooting. for those curious my set up was:

-Asus P5E Deluxe (flashed to Rampage Bios)
-Intel e8500
-8gb of DDR2 1066 Corsair Dominator
-3ware 9650se 2lp Raid Card had two 36 gb 16mb cache raptors on it in raid 0. 64kb stripe size

-The onboard raid was running 2 seagate 750gb drives in a mirror, and 2 WD 320gb drives in a mirror. and sata optical drive (which worked fine)

4 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: Works great in our Dell PowerEdge840 in RAID1 configuration running Windows Server2000. We also have one of these cards in a Dell Optiplex 320 XP desktop running RAID1 with no problems.

Cons: Our first controller on the Optiplex 320 had intermittent problems booting. 3ware shipped us a newer version of card and it has run flawlessly ever since.

Other Thoughts: We haven't noticed any performance problems but we are mainly concerned with redundancy.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy Setup

Pros: This card is reasonably priced, easy to install, and works very well. I have it in a virtual server (host) using SuSE Linux 10 SP2 with Xen (hypervisor) and everything installed perfectly without any special configuration (the drivers are included with SLES). 3Ware seems to be the choice for good Linux support.

Cons: Haven't found any in my use.

Other Thoughts: This model is the low end of the line and doesn't include battery back up, I have my server on a UPS so I feel reasonably safe but it's something you should be aware of.

I haven't done any benchmark testing but it does seem pretty fast.
