5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Server

Pros: I love mine. Worked like a charm out of the box, I used a Q6600 and some ECC 5300 memory, no issues at all.
Intel went the extra mile in providing the accessories with this unit. The Slim ROM drive mounting accessories were amsome, they provided the rails, and even the tiny screws that are hard to find for the slim ROM, as well as the PCB board to convert the slim ROM to IDE or SATA. The also plumbed the SATA drive and power cables perfectly, as well as provided the weird slim ROM power connector, which I have never seen before, I usually have to hunt one down from the other brands of pizza box servers. They didn't provide much on the Linux driver side, just some Windows disks, but I am using FC10 on this box so I don't know what the Windows disks do. I could only wish that Intel would provide the driver source so the Linux crowd could compile their own Video drivers, the ES1000 is hard to find NIX drivers for.

Cons: None really, I could only wish for linux driver source, but I can't take away for that reason since NOBODY provides those for bare bones servers.

Other Thoughts: I paid $399 on sale, and by the time I was done I had about $600 into a nice, solid, 1U utility server. For the price, this is a great server to built on, whether it be Windows or whatever other OS you plan to use it for. The dual NICS and easy of setup make this a versitile machine that anyone can easily deploy and enjoy. The rails are good quality and easy to install, nice to have those included since that is the reason people buy 1 U servers.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Server

Pros: Bought this server to replace 3 other servers, installed VMWARE ESXi. Runs 5 VM's without breaking a sweat. All hardware is support for ESXi and I have had no issues. The inclusion of the rails is definitely a bonus. Fast Shipping, and excellent service from Newegg, but I would have been surprised with anything less.

Cons: Loud, not really a con, just be aware, it is a 1u rack-mounted server and sounds like a hairdryer. Not an issue for me since I have a rack in an isolated closet of my house. Software RAID not an issue if you don't need RAID or run an OS with supported drivers.

Other Thoughts: Excellent Deal thanks Newegg!!!

5 out of 5 eggsInexpensive Server

Pros: This is a very inexpensive server. Intel warranty. Purchased @ $100 off and a free processor. Internal bays for 2 drives, plenty of airflow, 1U heat included for CPU. Front side USB port, dual gigabit ethernet, onboard RAID (Intel Matrix RAID or LSI). 4 SATA ports on the board. Mounts included for thin CD/DVD drive. Boots to USB DVD drive. System comes with rails.

Cons: Memory is limited to DDR2-667. Legacy keyboard and mouse ports instead of extra USB ports.

Other Thoughts: Servers are not supposed to be quiet. Servers are not meant to be used as desktops. Servers are supposed to run at full power 24/7 without overheating or failing. This isn't going to be the most powerful server ever, but it will be great for small business or home use (network router, site hosting, mySQL etc for small applications) this is not a server for the corporate environment or heavily trafficked sites.

I am running Fedora Core 12 on mine and setting it up as a gateway router with limited site hosting capabilities.

4 out of 5 eggsSweet Deal

Pros: Picked one of these up on sale bundled with a Xeon X3220. I just couldn't say no! So far I'm pretty happy with it. The case is well designed and has a good layout.

Cons: Fans are LOUD. During boot it sounds like the woman's hairdryer. No riser card included. No molex power plugs for older IDE drives.

I wouldn't count on installing anything big in the expansion slots.

Other Thoughts: Newegg Spec sheet is a little thin. Board does have RAID. Video chip is an ATI ES1000. Can't find Windows 7 drivers for it.

5 out of 5 eggsOptimal price/performance

Pros: I bought this one last week when it was on sale with free shipping and a free Xeon X3220. At that time, I had extra memory and a SATA disk, so I couldn't pass this opportunity to get a new four-core 1U Xeon server at four hundred :) To my surprise, I got rails, and passive heatsink in the board box (not shown on the pictures / specs), so I got a spare heatsink with this deal, and don't have to buy rails (DELL requires you to buy rails separately). All in all, this is a perfect combination for my needs for so little money. And it works great -- the drivers installed without any glitches and the companion CD ROM contains all you need. I am glad I pulled the trigger on this one.

Cons: The video card has very limited resolution, the LCD display looks nasty.

I don't think I would be as happy if I had to buy the X3220. That would destroy the price advantage and the deal won't be that great.
