The Intel RAID Controller SASWT8I is ideal for servers and workstations needing high-speed data transfer with the option for entry-level hardware RAID data protection. This RAID controller allows for point-to-point connections with a SAS universal interconnect interface. This allows for 1.5 and 3Gb/s SATA hard disk drives along with logical SCSI compatibility for the extra reliability and manageability that SAS drives provide.

Ultra-thin Driver LSI Fusion-MPT architecture provides over 140,000 I/Os per second while communicating over the PCI Express 8-lane host bus.
Cost-effective Data Protection Provides a low-cost RAID 0, 1, and 1E/10E solution for entry-level server and workstation environments where high-performance and reliable data protection are required.
SAS or SATA Storage Connect SAS or SATA devices within the array. Use SAS drives for speed, reliability and scalability. Use high-capacity SATA drives for budget-friendly storage.
Hot Spare Includes global hot spare support that automatically comes online to replace the first drive to fail on any array or disk group on the controller.
Flexibility Supports up to 122 physical devices in SAS mode, which is ideal for employing JBODs (Just a Bunch Of Disks) or up to 14 devices in RAID 0, 1, 1E/10E mode through direct connect device attachment or through expander backplane support.

Been running 24/7 for over a year, no hitches yet. Cons: Bought it from another retailer, cost $100 back then :( Other Thoughts: The person who gave it a 1 star review is a moron. It is especially useful in a 1U server, as it lays flat and parallel to the MB. Cons: None. It works as specified. It even had the RMA number on it!!! Other Thoughts: This is the Module only, it is NOT the actual RAID controller card.
