The Intel RAID Controller RS25DB080, a second generation SAS-2/SATA-3 card with eight internal ports, delivers two 800MHz processor cores and a 72-bit DDR3 interface that drives 1 GB cache memory. For users implementing hybrid server platforms based on solid-state storage, the Intel RS25DB080 unleashes the IOPS and throughput potential of SSDs to provide exceptional storage performance. Users deploying this controller in HDD-based server environments are likely to experience significant performance gains compared to the previous generation of controllers.
For even greater data protection, the Intel RAID Controller RS25DB080 offers self-encrypting drive support with Intel premium features. This controller delivers outstanding availability with proactive drive monitoring and automatic error correction, along with an optional battery backup that maintains data without the need for an uninterruptible power supply.
Pros: very nice, very fast hardware RAID card with great OS support and features. 1GB of cache with the ability to add a battery and 'keys' for hardware drive encryption and advanced RAID (but not included)
Cons: Both the packing list and installation instructions say that the SAS-to-SATA breakout cables are included..but they are not. This caused a bit of delay for my build as I needed to order the cables.
Other Thoughts: Intel support is a waste of oxygen. They never answered the phone when I called them about the missing cables. I ended up just purchasing the cables from Newegg.com at $25 each. So this ended up costing me $50 more than I expected.
