4 out of 5 eggsGreat Solid Server Solution.

Pros: Hot Swap design for Sata/Sas drives. Plenty of room for storage/cd/dvd. Solid design Motherboard. Excellent documentation. Excellent software setup CD. Virtually quiet Fans (See Cons).

Excellent Server setup for Centos 6.x / Linux. Home or small office

Using the Intel Remote Management Module AXXRMM4 (purchase separate) you can monitor and receive system problems before they reach critical problems.

3 Year warranty on motherboard

Cons: The P4304BTLSHCNR is slated to be discontinued end of 2014.

System Fan Issue: At default power up, the system fan goes full rpm and very loud noise level . There are a lot of references on the web, but many are confusing. The simple solution is to download this file off the intel support site:
Extract the contents onto a USB stick, plug the stick into the front USB slot, boot up the system and the Bios update will take place. Follow the instructions.

Once done the Bios will be updated and the Fan issue will be eliminated.

Only VGA port. Newer Monitors need the DVI type. Purchase Simple DVI card to solve this.

Check compatibility of onboard Sata with OS manufacturer. Purchased separate Raid card (Below) because Centos 6.6 did not have a driver for the Motherboard Sata.

I Give this system 5 eggs even though there is a fan issue.

I have to remove 1 egg due to Newegg not following their IronEgg Price Guarantee. After purchasing the system, I found it on one of the approved competitors site for about $180 less. I submitted a form and was not given the full price difference because the customer support said they would be losing money. That is not my concern. I followed new egg's rules. As a compromise I was offered a $50 coupon, which I agreed upon with no further argument. I have been a good customer of new eggs and this is the first time I used their IronEgg Guarantee. Be careful, you may have to negotiate even though they say "price difference" not "Profit level". Sorry NewEgg.. But people need to understand this.

Other Thoughts: This is my second system build using this platform. Solid system. Upgraded from old Compaq Proliant 1600.

The above gives you a solid system with room to expand.

4 out of 5 eggsGood choice for small offices

Pros: Virtually silent. Good drive layout and hot swap design. Solid boards.

Cons: Power Supply reliability not bad but not great. Could use a higher wattage or more reliable unit. Intel should ship with a more recent BIOS package.

Other Thoughts: We are a system builder and have built 50 of these and deployed to customers. There are just a few minor and manageable issues with them. First, the bezel is slightly flimsy and can the tabs can break if mis-handled. We have had two power supplies fail in the field out of 50 over about nine months. The design of the hot swap drives and backplane is solid and has no issues for us and the main boards are solid without any issues in the units we've sent. The overall packaging is good and we haven't seen any shipping damage or issues. They run very cool and virtually silent. If you don't update the BIOS and backplane firmware package and just run it out of the box, you will get a LOUD server like the review below. Follow the instructions on the deployment CD and all will be fine. My personal opinion is that the 365w power supply with these is a little small for most installs. I'd like to see a 550w or so. The deployed servers are all hooked to UPS systems, so I don't think the power supply reliability is linked to storm issues.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to set-up and deploy, good selection of mounting hardware included, supports Windows 2012, detailed diagnostic LEDs on-board. Includes adapters for 2.5mm drives in the hot-swap bays.

Cons: Documentation didn't specify that DIMMs must be installed first in slots 0 of each channel. If slot 1 of either channel is populated without slot 0, it simply displays a splash screen when powered on. You must press the "Y" key to bypass this.

The built in RAID controller ONLY supports RAID level 5 if you purchase the Intel AXXRAKSW5 RAID Activation Key - otherwise you can only use 0/1/10, or an external controller.

Other Thoughts: This server is very noisy, it's not suitable for use inside an office. Don't buy this for your desk and complain about the noise.

The server specifies that it doesn't support "Workstation" processors, but it does support the Xeon E3-1275, which says "Workstation" on the box. Check the Intel Server Configurator for more compatibility information.
