1 out of 5 eggsLSI Could Do Better

Pros: While it is not a bad raid card

Cons: For the price one might expect better performance. For example, an Adpatec 5405, with battery backup, with a raid 10, with 4 drives (320 GB Sata II HDDs, 7200 rpm) turns out 450 MB per second for sequential reads. If I were the guy with 8 2tb drives, I would be disappointed, even if I were running a raid 5.

5 out of 5 eggsimpressed so far

Pros: - can interface with Areca arc-8026 to get all status info of the expander
- lsi raid management tool is pretty nice

Cons: the alarm is SO loud, but I suppose it should be.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a Highpoint RocketRaid 2722 (wanted to go full hardware vs. software aka "hardware-assisted" RAID) and am very happy.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent card

Pros: * Works out of the box
* Technical but understandable configuration tools
* fairly predictable (no strange errors, extra configurations, etc)

Cons: * Firmware updating can be a real pain. I had to do a bit of R&D to discover you have to upgrade from a VERY old firmware to an OLD firmware, then to a new firmware.
* Doesn't seat perfectly solid in the slot, but clamping down the screw on the backplane makes this mostly a non issue. Just make sure it's tightened in solid

Other Thoughts: This is a great card and I am glad I picked one up. Right now running a RAID 10 2TB x 4 mixed drives 2 WD blacks, 2 WD SE's. I don't recommend the drive mixing setup (blacks run too hot and you can tell are a touch slower), go for the SE's, but very awesome the card handles it well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: The card was automaticly support by WHS 2011. The drivers automaticly installed so you could not get any more plug in play than that. The bios webgui made setting up this card a breeze. It only took about 5 mins to setup the raid and most that time was clicking on the drives and adding them to the raid. This card works flawlessly with the Habey Enclosure.

Cons: None at all

Other Thoughts: If you are doing a media server do not cheap out. Performance is the key to being able to stream full quality HD video to multiple locations:) And when you are reaching 13TB and more a good raid card is a must.

5 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for!

Pros: Excellent performance--I have this card running an 8x 2TB hdd RAID 50 array. It gets sequential read speeds of over 400MB/s. Some sequential reads and writes are faster than my RevoDrive. The software for RAID setup is very nice, and Windows 7 automatically installed the needed drivers.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This version is more expensive than the card with internal connectors, but if you plan on setting up an external RAID array, the extra cables and connectors needed cancel out any savings.

When getting a RAID card, you are paying for performance and driver support. Don't cheap out, LSI cards and drivers are the best.
