The LSI SAS 9211-4i host bus adapter provides the greatest available throughput to internal server storage arrays through four internal 6Gb/s ports, driving up to 256 SAS and SATA physical devices. This HBA offers dynamic SAS functionality including dual-port drive redundancy and SATA compatibility. Utilizing one internal x4 SFF8087 Mini-SAS connector, the low-profile SAS 9211-4i is an excellent fit for 1U and 2U servers.

The SAS 9211-4i utilizes the embedded CPU in the LSISAS2008 controller to perform Integrated RAID 0, 1, 1E and 10 operations for reliable data protection with high-availability. The result is an ultra-thin, low-overhead device driver communicating over the x4 PCI Express 2.0 host interface. By reducing RAID code overhead, this HBA delivers high-speed READ/WRITE performance, making it perfect for medium to high-capacity internal storage applications.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Ignore reports it requires an x16 slot, or will only work in server motherboards. I have had no trouble with this card in x4 slots on desktop motherboards. Don't try to use it in an x1 slot - however. A lot of desktop motherboards only have x16 and x1.

One of the few cards compatible with Intel controllers. Works great with the Intel port expanded.

High performance. Blazingly fast device enumeration. Works great with Linux. Highly recommended.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks when installed correctly!

Pros: When installed correctly (cables and drives alike) works as advertised!

Cons: None if you know what you are doing!

Other Thoughts: Let's not confuse SAS connectors with with SATA connectors. Just because it says 6GB/s doesn't imply SATA. Sometimes the cards refers to SATA as "Compatible".

Why would a card that it built for PCI Express 4X only work in a PCI Express 16X?

3 out of 5 eggsFor Server Motherboards Only

Pros: Never got to find out...

Cons: Will only work on an Enterprise Server Motherboards, it will not work on a Desktop Motherboard. It uses the PCIe X16 slot looking for HBA Support, apparently all Desktop boards do not support HBA. Never could update the Firmware (that was because of incompatibility with my Gigabyte Desktop Motherboard. Firmware is not particularly user friendly and the sync process is very slow on 147G drives (2) - one hour...

Other Thoughts: I was and am still attempting to use the new 6Gb SAS/SATA standard. Apparently it is new enough that 3rd party manufacturers aren't up on the standard. All 6Gb Drives use a new connection standard SFF 8482. Standard SATA Cables will not work. I see Controller Cards (Highpoint), Motherboards (Gigabyte) all with standard SATA 3.0 connections, don't see how that can work...
