4 out of 5 eggsNot Too Bad For The Price

Pros: -Hardware RAID
-LSI software is nice to work with
-Comes with the SATA cable
-Hot Swap
-Hot Spare

Cons: -Slow write speeds

Other Thoughts: I am using this card with 4 WD RE4 drives in RAID 5. The read speeds are awesome (about 250 MB/sec), but the write speeds are kinda slow (roughly 30 MB/sec). If you update the firmware in DOS, its not too easy. But I later found out that you can use the LSI megaraid sofware to update the firmware on the card. Which would have saved me quite a bit of effort.

1 out of 5 eggsSORRY, BUT DON'T BUY THIS CARD

Pros: Came with cables for four drives, easy to install. Offered 6 Gb/sec capability for my SATA II generation motherboard. Had no problem booting it up with my 2009 Asus P5E-WS motherboard (which is similar to one in LSI's compatibility list -- I checked). Small sized card, little heat generated (which is very unlike my small LSI ultra320 SCSI card).

Cons: The onboard BIOS was somewhat difficult to navigate. I basically had to do it by trial and error. Any F1 help was nonexistent. The only help or detailed instructions available are in a PDF file on the enclosed CD or online -- useless unless you print it out before installation. (And most of the text in the various LSI documentation PDF files seem to me to be written for IT professionals, not home users.)

No matter how many times I reconfigured the instructions, Windows 7 came up with a different "Blue Screen of Death" -- five times! After that the card's onboard configuration utility would no longer come on, so I suppose that the card must have died at that point. Thus, after only two days, I had to RMA the card back to NewEgg (but the NewEgg staff made that easy).

Other Thoughts: Given LSI's position in the industry, I really thought that this product would behave better than it did. Well, at least the NewEgg staff were thoroughly competent, courteous, and professional (and this is the very first time I have ever had to RMA anything to anyone).

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work - ASUS P8Z77-V

Pros: Cables included, half height and full height headers. I see the LSI bios options at boot time

Cons: Cannot start device in Win7 /64

Other Thoughts: Apparently this is a known issue but this card is an expensive paperweight for me.

2 out of 5 eggsDevice Cannot Start

Pros: Worked for a while on my older system

Cons: Built new system with Asus Sabertooth X79 and getting the "The Device Cannot Start (10)" error in device manager.

Apparently this card has issues with newer motherboards and UEFI. LSI released new drivers and firmware for UEFI but it still doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunate, paid good money for a bricked card. Called LSI support and they were of little help.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT HARDWARE RAID

Pros: NONE, DO NOT BUY, FAKE RAID!!!

Cons: This is an expensive SOFTWARE RAID card, if you want real hardware raid, you will have to at least go to the 9260 series from LSI.

Other Thoughts: You can check the LSI Product selector guide to confirm you get real hardware raid on any card with an I/O processor (chip) that says ROC at the end.

1 out of 5 eggsI wish it would have worked.

Pros: Inexpensive, 6.0Gbps, actual HW RAID.

Cons: Compatible with basically nothing on the consumer market, even though they advertise it as an entry-level board aimed at the "gaming enthusiast" market.

I really wish I could have given this card a good review, but I really, really hate to return stuff. This is just far too expensive to take a hit on, and I don't have a different computer that I could try this card in instead.

Other Thoughts: I have an EVGA 780i motherboard, and wanted to utilize actual hardware RAID instead of the cruddy onboard nVidia fakeRAID, in addition to upgrading from SATA 3Gbps to SATA 6Gbps capabilities. Unfortunately, this card causes the system to fail to boot. As a matter of fact, when this card is installed, the BIOS will fail if I press any keyboard button.

I guess I'll just send this card back and save up for an upgrade of my CPU/MB/RAM that will be coming up eventually. Pretty depressing...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat RAID5 card

Pros: Great tech support

Cons: Awkward SCSI interface and undocumented setup

Other Thoughts: I am using this card to utilize four 2 TB drives in a RAID 5 configuration. All is working well, it's about $150 less than equivalent Adaptec card

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: Easy install. fast interface. >85MB/s (>5GB/min) on long sustained transfers with no drop in speed (6GB SATA Enterprise drive). 5900 RPM SATA drives are just a bit slower (abt 70MB/s).

Cons: None so far, will update as needed.

Other Thoughts: Transfer rates are very dependent on the motherboard, processor, memory and drive speed. Using the card for DFS and removable drive media for daily backups. The card doesn't even try to balk when swapping out daily backup drives.

2 out of 5 eggsCHECK YOUR SPECS FIRST!

Pros: May work for you

Cons: ....may not.

Other Thoughts: LSI makes great stuff.

This particular board as well as the 92"40"-8 ( the same firmware with 8 internal connectors ) Will NOT work with MOST contemporary motherboards and LSI has a Knowledge Base article on this. It has been tested for a very limited number of MB's and if yours is NOT SPECIFICALLY LISTED ON THEIR COMPATIBILITY CHART ...you can be pretty sure it will not boot.

and the previous commenter was correct, some MB's that have X 16 slots will ONLY RUN GRAPHICS CARDS and NOT CONTROLLERS...so check first and save some aggravation and returns to New Egg.

The 9260, and 920 while MUCH more expensive have MUCH greater compatibility and LSI is great company to deal with. Also check model and part numbers for LSI devices as some units are "CARDS ONLY" while the KITS include the "CABLES".

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Good card for older systems.

Cons: Won't work with any 1155 based motherboard and LSI doesn't seem to be working on firmware or drivers that will make compatible.
