Pros: Incredibly easy to install.
Worked on the first try.
Windows quickly added the card automatically using a microsoft driver. Did install the LSI software for local server (workstation) and with that easily updated firmware, bios and other stuff. Practically did not improve speed of current Seagate 7500 rpm HDD. But its BLAZING noticeable with the new Samsung 840 EVO 750gb SSD.

Cons: Not that any other PCIe 2.0 card has the functions, but still I wish it had it.... AHCI capability through AHCI.... BUT STILL awsome speed i dont think i would notice any diference with AHCI....

Other Thoughts: installed on Dell Precision T7500 dual Xeon. Windows 7 Pro. Did upgrade simultaneously with the the new Samsung 840 EVO 750gb SSD.

Pros: Works great in my Fujitsu Server using a SATA III SSD as the OS drive and three SATA III HDDs for RAID. SATA connections work well in my application vice a fan-out 8087. It also has 8088 for external expansion that I don't use yet. This was the only card I could find with the exact combo I was looking for.

Cons: A little slow to boot, but thats it. Software could be better. RAID build was painfully slow, but worked.

Other Thoughts: Very stable with Win 8, Win 7, and Server 2012. Reasonably priced when on sale plus 15% off.

Pros: Price and brand. Seems to be faster than Adaptec 6405 with 128MB cache, as my source drive gets saturated 100%, while destination is bouncing 40-80% (RoboCopy on 8 threads).

Cons: Can't get it to boot in a ThinkStation C20. If any drive is switched on, during boot time, it gets stuck with a cursor blinking in upper left corner. Same result if no drives are connected, but I try to get into configuration (Ctrl+C). After boot, if I power the drives on (using external SAS SansDigital for a backplane), the drives seems to be working fine.

Other Thoughts: Web support decent. When upgrading firmware, a must right after opening the box, select the one ending with IR to have RAID, or IT for JBOD alone.

Pros: The specs pretty much say it all, this card supports 6Gbps (SATA III or SAS) drives, uses PCIe x8 for plenty of throughput, online array expansion, hot spares. Basically, it does what it says. Performance wise, it's no better than the AMD RAID built onto my 990FX motherboard, but it has features mine doesn’t support, such as SNMP, SAS drives, and an external multi-lane connector.

Cons: While there is plenty of good documentation, it could be a little daunting for novices. For novices, I'd recommend installing the MegaRAID Storage Manager to make it easier for novices to administer & flash update the adapter. There are both BIOS and firmware updates that need to be applied. There are two different types of firmware (IR & IT). You want to make sure you flash the correct one, so make sure to read the documentation. It is simplest to just use the same type your adapter came with, and for the 9212 it is the IR (integrated raid) version.

Other Thoughts: The "Message Unit Reset failed on adapter #0!" was an issue with the version of FW & BIOS that was shipped on the LSI adapter, but this error has been corrected a long time ago via updated FW & BIOS. Even after updating the FW and BIOS, I still had a little trouble figuring out how to enter the BIOS based setup. For my desktop motherboard, I had to hit the CTRL-C when prompted by the LSI card, then I had to wait for the motherboard to post its setup message and choose to boot from an alternate boot device. In the list of boot devices there was an additional boot device (caused from pressing CTRL-C), which was the BIOS setup program for the LSI adapter. Choose to boot to that added device, and it takes you right into the RAID setup.

Pros: works, speed is okay, price is good

Cons: need linux module and did not like the gui

Other Thoughts: i gave up using it on debian and got a 3ware instead.
works nicely on my win7 x64 station.

Pros: Just threw it into my VMWare ESXi 4.1 box and it was found without problems (Dell T110 server)

On VMWare HCL

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: Still testing, but so far, so good.

Pros: The combination of internal sata and external SAS is ideal to allow for internal and later external storage expansion.

There is no other card that I've found which has this combination of functionality, 6gb/s, and Win7 driver support.

Cons: Only for server motherboards! To quote LSI support with respect to the cards incompatibility with the Asus P6T6 :

"This is a workstation board and the lsi card is basically for server boards only."

Other Thoughts: This is an addition to my last comment and an increase in rating because a product shouldn't be excessively criticized for what is a problem between two products.

This is probably a nice card if you a) have a "server" motherboard or b) are lucky enough to have a small footprint mobo BIOS. If you don't have a server board be prepared to RMA this and pay the restocking fee. (grrrr).

It's way past time to move to everything to EFI and stop these prehistoric BIOS limitations. 64-bit UEFI allows access to all system memory.

If you don't have a "server" motherboard and need a RAID controller card it's probably best to look for one that can be managed in the host OS (CLI or browser-based management). That way failure to load the BIOS configuration isn't critical unless you plan to boot from the RAID array.

Pros: Looks like a good controller. It is exactly what I wanted.
Supports the new sata specs for the future.
Has both internal and external connectors to allow external expansion.

Cons: Is not compatible with Asus P6T6 WS Revolution motherboard. It may also be incompatible with other Asus motherboards.

Other Thoughts: The problem is that the Asus mobo BIOS doesn't allow enough memory for the LSI configuration firmware to start. The firmware says it will start after initialization but fails with a error that is flashed to the screen too quickly to read. I video recorded the screen and the error was:

"Message Unit Reset failed on adapter #0!"

To quote LSI support:
"The controller is not compatible with your Asus board. There is not enough memory space for LSI bios."

I tried every combination in the Asus BIOS options to eliminate BIOS functions that could be turned off but nothing worked.

I'm going to go ding the Asus P6T6 as well.

Pros: Great card. It was easy to setup, 0 problems with Server 2008 R2, and with SATA III SSDs your screaming fast.

RAID 1E!!!

PCI-E 8x

Cons: No RAID 5 (Meh)

No Forground initialization on the drives, at least that I could find in the cards BIOS.

Other Thoughts: I got this thing hooked up to a single SATA 3 SSD and three SATA 3 660GB 7200 RPM Drives.

Raid 1E in case it's new to you gives redundancy for three drives without all that messy pairity. Raid 1E is actually faster than RAID 5 but you get half capacity for three drives instead of two thirds capacity.

Initialization of RAID 1E to create a 1TB Drive took over 24 hours.

I'm still working on configuring the system but read and write speeds seem about right and I havent run any preformance tests yet. However, A full install of 2008 R2 was completed using Windows Depolyment Services with an answer file before I could run downstairs and and grab someone to witness it.
