Pros: The card appears to have some good RAID functionality, and I may end up using it in a limited capacity on a PCI-E 2.0 bus if I can be convinced that it is stable with my computer's build.

Cons: This product claims to be PCI-E 3.0 compatible. What the manufacturer actually means is that it is compatible with specific PCI-E 3.0 main boards. On my MSI main board, it actually freezes the PCI-E 3.0 bus and prevents anything else on that bus from working.

When I spoke to LSI customer support, they told me that the product had known "intermittent problems" with MSI in PCI-E 3.0 configurations. I can't think of an application for a RAID storage controller where "intermittent problems" means it can be useful for anything at all.

If you are looking to buy this card, or any other LSI PCI-E 3.0 "compliant" card, I strongly suggest that you read the compatibility matrix tucked away on LSI's site under the product page (look under Resources, then Compatibility Document). If your main board (or storage media, cables, enclosure, or other controller) isn't on that list, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
