3 out of 5 eggsmeh

Pros: 5 drives in 3 5-14" bays. Makes my HAF have 10 hard drive bays and 3 optical drive bays. lets me change around my hard drive config on a weekly basis pretty easily. (Yes, I fool around with things a lot.) I kind of wish I could fit 2 of these in my case, but then I wouldn't be able to fit a DVD drive.

Cons: The included brackets for the drives use custom screws, very hard to replace if you lose any. The screw holes in the sides are in odd places, and make using some cases impossible. The fan died after only 2 months. noisy. included fan is not a standard thickness fan, so replacing it is out of the question. I jury rigged a new fan on the outside of the enclosure, but I still have to deal with a little red light on the front. The fan I put in is far less noisy and cools better. Dropped my temps 7F across all drives compared to the included fan.

Other Thoughts: If they'd slightly redesign the brackets and put the screw holes in better places, both on the brackets and on the enclosure itself, and preferably add 2.5" drive holes, it would be much better. making it slightly longer and putting in a standard sized, and quieter, fan would also make a huge difference. Putting in a higher quality fan is a must.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Great product, works out of the box. I like the fact that you can put in a hard drive, then power it on after its inserted. This allows windows to detect it and install it without a reboot!

Install is easy, make sure to set the jumpers for what you want.

Fans are pretty quiet, not silent but not noisy.

Been running for three years now, no fan or drive read/write failures.

Cons: This is a very minor thing that might just be me, but the pop open bay tabs are a little bit too easy to pop open, i have to be careful when loading a drive in and locking it. Its not irritating if it pops open because i can usually get it on the second try if i miss the first time.

Dust collects around the drive opening since the fans are pulling air in from the front. I have to turn the box off to properly clean the drive bays. Again not a big issue but i thought i would mention it.

Other Thoughts: I bought three of these when i bought them three years ago ( from newegg ), they have worked flawlessly. I bought a coolermaster case to house all of them, since its sata, you can buy a sata raid card and easily setup a raid accross as many of these things as you want. its a one to one connection.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is one great add-on HD case, only takes up three bays. Made of good quality with exception of front pull handles.. they require some TLC (kids gloves) removing and inserting. I'm running it on Win7 with 5TB of space...

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: None

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great cage. Five drives in three bays! I have 15 drives in my 9 bay case.

Nice to have independent power switch per slot. Per drive activity LEDs.

High/Low speed fan switch. Quiet on Low, not too bad on High either.

Cons: The lock is a little hard to turn if you have big fingers, but it's not rocket science. It's also should not be a daily occurrence that you need to take the drives out, or it better not be, otherwise you have other issues.

Other Thoughts: The cage get's plenty of air through it. There's one big fan on the back rather than two smaller noisier ones.

If your case has fingers in between the 5.25 bays, you need the other model with grooves which is unfortunately only 4 drives. You need a flat surface for this one (or a C clamp to flatten the fingers...)

5 out of 5 eggsfor the guy who said it won't turn on, not correct

Pros: it will turn on, it's a pin posh swtch, but for you it was obviously an intelligence test that you failed over a period of months. Very Scary, but I am guessing you are a Voter and love to put those people on the hill....

Cons: no cons

Other Thoughts: no other thoughts outside of "eugenics".

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do and quite well at that, although I am only using it for SATA drives right now. Have not yet tried SAS.

Cons: The locks for the 5 bays are quite small and hard to turn. There is a very small power button to actually turn on the unit.

Other Thoughts: I'll probably purchase a second one to add additional hard drives.

1 out of 5 eggsStay far, far away

Pros: It's a sleek design, feels very sturdy, the hard drives lock securely into place

Cons: The unit does not power on. At all, following the (very) limited included instruction manual. To lock the drives into the bay, you have to turn a small plastic knob, which is recessed and very hard to properly engage. The front cover also prevents any air from being brought in to the enclosure.

I've been playing tag with Athena Power's customer service the past few months, I've sent numerous emails to their publish email address and I've received 1 reply. I replied to this email and got a "address does not exist" error. As it stands I have a dead unit, nothing works, and their customer service is blackholing all of my correspondance.

I cannot stress "Do not buy this" emphatically enough.
