5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Fast and reliable - works as advertised, and easy to manage. Run drives without any special setup as is, and RAID setup is really easy to do when you want it

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsKnow the product before you order

Pros: I e-mailed SYBA if this card supports arrays larger than 3TB - it does not, which is to be expected from a PCI card, but they responded within hours to my e-mail, which earns them the 5 eggs.

Cons: PCI is old tech...

5 out of 5 eggs"IT WORK 4 ME" - SYBA SY-PCI40010

Pros: Nice to have when you don't have anymore more pci express slots.

Cons: None So Far Only Had It A Day Now.

Other Thoughts: I'm Not Using It For RAID.

I ran out of SATA ports I needed two more SATA ports so I'm only using two of the ports to run my two DVD drives.

My system I'm using is: Windows 7 64-bit. I did have to use the disk that came with it in order to get the drivers it did not recognize the card.

1 out of 5 eggsTRASH!

Pros: NONE

Cons: Card does not work. I plugged in four 2TB drives. Raided them according to the instructions. The raid shows up for about 5 minutes after my PC boots and then disappears. I contacted Syba and they would only exchange it. Refused to refund. Card does not work!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear of the inconvenience that this card has caused you.

Perhaps the card was not installed onto the system properly.

Try manually installing the updated drivers and updating your motherboard/BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price, number of ports, SATA2, PCI interface, supports RAID 10 which is nice and not something you often see on cards of this price.

Cons: RAID-5 performance (but this applies to all consumer boards) is terrible. File copy speed is 10mb sec. When Raid-1 or anything but raid-5 speed is 30-40 mb sec at minimum.
Chipset on motherboard gave same results so this isn't a fault of the board, rather limitation of consumer hardware.

Other Thoughts: The hardware limit of creating a 2.3TB array is wrong. I created a 4TB raid-5 and Raid-10 array with zero problems. I used the GPT partition scheme under Windows server 03.

3 out of 5 eggsNow what?

Pros: For non-raid use, data storage only, these cards are an easy install and perform reasonably well for a PCI interface controller.

Cons: Bought six of these to install in four systems with two held as spares. When a channel on one of the cards went south in about eight months, no big deal, it was replaced with a spare and the system was up and running in a few hours. But when a second card lost a channel two months later, the honeymoon was over.

Other Thoughts: In windowed cases, these cards allow SATA cables to be twisted in double helix and organized in tidy bundles for a clean look on one side of the card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear that the ports for these cards went out.

If you are looking for a standard controller card we do offer many PCIe cards that allow for four connected drives and up.

We do offer an RMA for this device.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks...if you put in some effort

Pros: Using this card in a older P4 Mobo running WHS (the older version, not 2011). I had no PCIe slots, only PCI. Mobo recognized the card right away, WHS not so much.

Cons: Requires a BIOS update to either the NON-RAID BIOS, if you do not want to run an array. OR the RAID BIOS to run one of the many RAID version that the card supports.

Other Thoughts: Go the the Silicon Image website and download the 6.6 bios update. As others have said, flash either the "r" version for RAID or the non-"r" version for no RAID. Reboot and update your drivers according to the setup you intend to run.
I am having issues with the 2TB file limit in WHS, but that is a problem with the OS, not the card.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for home!

Pros: Great bang for your buck! 4 SataII connections, RAID5 available, PCI connection, Small form factor, driver on CD works with WIN VISTA or 7.

Cons: Manufacture's site states card has a "Hardware RAID Array Maximum size: 2.3TB; Except for JBOD mode."

Other Thoughts: I use this card with WinVista as a peer to peer storage solution. I have 3 2TB drives in RAID5. I don't have the restriction listed above, which is NICE. Great card for the $, per my buddy it will tax your CPU for file usage as it doesn't have its own brains. I store music, files, pictures on mine, which saves the family $ on external backup drives.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent replacement SATA controller, does RAID too

Pros: Cheap, PCI, works as a replacement for controller on a failing mobo.

Comes with 2x SATA II cables... You might expect 4, but I expected none so it's a pro.

Configures easily.

Cons: the bracket was a little bent coming out of the box.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Plugs in and is recognized w/o any problems.

Cons: To get the BIOS to recognize any drives for booting purposes you must set up a RAID/Concatenation/etc setup.

Other Thoughts: Have an older Asus A7V8X-LA board which has only SATA1 and cannot connect to my SATA2+ devices. This allowed me to connect all 3 SATA devices and boot Vista off of a 320Gb WD SATA2 drive set as a single drive concatenation in the card's BIOS.
